Unfortunately The South London Press is no more , the website is down and the paper's last printing was on friday 23rd May 2025.

Seems a pity.

I expect Millwall and Charlton fans will feel the loss more than us our paper was the Croydon Advertiser.

Still I did occasionally view it for local news.

I got in the South London Press once. i wore my Palace shirt (and i am no relation to Bellyman)((or his missus)) 🙂

It was really very good for local news. My Millwall mate used to work in the printers, but thankfully he retired a few years ago. Just the way things are going nowadays. Most people don't even have a daily newspaper now.

I used to buy the Croydon Advertiser every Friday when I lived in Croydon for all the Palace news, surprised it’s still going.

I still read the 'Daily Mail' and 'Telegraph' on a regular basis !
My old father in law still gets a paper, but I should imagine once that generation has gone, it’ll be a struggle for them to keep going.
I had a shock recently how expensive they are now, I bought five Sunday papers the day after we won the cup, it was only the red tops, and it cost me over £13!!

I used to buy the SLP every week just for that little bit about palace or the match reports which were always better than the national papers.

Hadn't bought it in years but funnily enough i got last friday's for the coverage of our cup win and it turned out to be the last ever one.

Suddenly annoyed I didn't think of that.

I remember that - it was when you found the strange object in the woods and you told them that "an old lady" had identified it as an unexploded incendiary device from WWII

I have never forgiven you for that!

and your dog looked better in the shirt than you 🤣

I’m surprised any newspapers are still going these days to be honest, with smartphones, the internet and rolling 24 hour news channels, by the time the papers come out it’s old news
Exactly which is why most papers today are full of opinion columns and celeb news. They are more like OK magazine than a Newspaper.

the economics of news media and journalism has now gone weird. What with every schoolboy being a tinpot scoop on social media and all that.

the government in Ireland was investigating financially propping up our print media.....same as the tv company. Propaganda in all but name.

Sad, but not surprised, to see the SLP gone to the knackers yard.

Sadly newspapers are only used as firelighters in our house.
I recall when the QE2 died, there was a queue outside our local shop of pensioners buying armfuls of newspapers. "I'm going to save these for,...(grandchildren, great-grand children)

I was thinking, "that's going to be a useless pole of crap your relatives are going to have to chuck out when you die." All the information you'll ever need is on the internet. Sometimes, it might even resemble the truth. 🙂

I bought the SLP and Advertiser last week for the Final coverage. First time in ages I have actually bought them. SLP generally only had a small bit about Palace usually more about our South London neighbours.

The Advertiser cost £3.40! Much less content than it used to be

Newspapers are fought over where I live - we either need them or compostable bags for food waste. The bags are a minimum maybe 2 euro for ten or so. Or you have a stinky bin and have to hose it out all the time. Is it not similar for others? Our free paper never gets delivered anymore and there's a scramble at the shop for it.
