Women's Football Finances

Chelsea sold their women's team for an unbelievable £200m so this article from the BBC makes interesting reading.

Naturally the players from Blackburn, Reading and Wolves are upset but I think this shows the reality of the finances in the game. They want to be professional players and paid a decent wage. The reality is that most clubs can't afford it and they are really just semi amateur.

It just makes the claim that Chelsea are worth £200m even more ludicrous.

Its a shame, but ultimately its only a matter of time before most clubs have to give up on this CSR project.

Its been loss making for years despite the disproportionate access and free coverage. Ultimately most women are not really interested in sport, and most men are.

Not really fair for the female players, but there isn't a solution that even comes close to making commercial sense.

Yup but if a man says he's not interested in women's sport (I'm not) he's branded a misogynist. So it's okay for women to not be interested in women's sport but men are supposed to support it.

Women spend a fortune on fashion, if they spent a tenth of that on watching / playing sport their game would be as big as the men's. They choose not to which is their right so don't complain about the lower wages, sisters heal thy self.

I'm not so sure. Like everything else, there are big women's sides and small ones. The small ones get Vanarama crowds - so yes semi-pro level of financing. But others get Championship size attendances - when you look at Arsenal for instance.
I was surprised at work to hear a female colleague going over to London to watch Arsenal ladies with her daughter. And she seems to have got quite into it. She's from Croydon and the family support Palace in the men's game.
However, that any expect premier League style wages is patently ridiculous. But those wages are actually ridiculous in themselves in reality. I think that the women should ignore the hype of premier League wages and look at where their game is. A grand a week for playing football isn't bad in of itself. And really that's quite a realistic total of you think of a squad of 25 and a manager with a couple of thousand average attendance, a bit of TV money, and some sponsorship.

I walked into an empty pub on the 18th May hungover from the night before. It was showing the Fa cup women's final. Chelsea were 2-0 up. I asked the bartender if he was showing the west ham / Forest game and the look I was given and was told people are here watching it. I looked around to the completely empty pub and again.......When the game was finished the arsenal Newcastle came on and the whole pub filled up. The pub was not short on screens either.

I have often brought my neice to the palace women's games in Sutton but she would still rather go to a men's game 🤷🏻‍♂️

Arsenal are the only one. Numbers drop off pretty sharply from there.

The other issue is ticket price. They are usually at a fraction of the prices charged in the mens games.

They made a massive deal about the FA cup final being sold out, but tickets were £15, and kids a fiver.

£40 for 2 adults a 2 kids. You cant even go to the cinema for that. 100% the best value family day out in London.

Went to the Women’s’ FA Cup Final…2 trips to Wembley that weekend !
Anyhow, Blue Light employees could get up to 6 FREE Tickets for the latter event, so rude not to go.
Big crowd (74k) but wonder how much the gate receipts were compared to day before ?

LOL Swiss National team lose to under 15 boys team, giants of football FC Luzern.

I'm surprised the boys were able to concentrate, not sure I would.
I wonder if the lads enjoyed their shower after the game. Lather everywhere 😉
