2025 FA Cup Final thread

I am a Spurs fan and just wanted to congratulate you all on beating those scumbags!

As a Yid I have only ever seen us win one trophy - the 2008 league cup when I was 14. So I compeltely understand what these moments are like for supporters of clubs that aren't financially doped.

As its also your guys first major honour I can only imagine how much more special this may feel. Esepcially as I have to yet see Spurs actually play in an FA Cup final!

I hope your able to remember loved ones who have supported your club who weren't there to see it but I am sure they were with you all the way.

And what a wanker Guardiola is. I think he has shown what a narcisistic c*** he is. No sympathy for anyone but himself. The fact you rattled him is a huge Brucie Bonus!

Craig

Also your supporters have conducted themselves with absoloute class. You are a very likeable bunch unlike certain other clubs (West Ham and Chelsea mainly!)

I really loathe Guardiola and his behaviour on Saturday in confronting Henderson confirms everything I thought about him being an ungracious loser and a loathsome man. His team are deliberately coached to break up play and prevent counter attacks with cynical fouls and then of course there is the diving and constant whingeing to the referee. No disrespect to any decent City fans but I heartily dislike what their club has become, which makes us beating them even sweeter.

Basking in the glory of Saturday I had another look at the game.

I can’t help think that the watching Roy would have been impressed and it looked as if Roy had almost been employed as a consultant coach for the day.

We defended deep in our own half with eleven players behind the ball for much of the game.
We were compact with very little space between our players for City to exploit.
Wharton and Kamada sat as two holding players in a very disciplined fashion.
In fact Glasner observed that this was only breached once when Kamada stepped out leading to the penalty.
We were content (as with Roy) when the ball was out wide , reasoning that we were set up well to defend crosses.
We blocked what Glasner describes as the ‘pockets’ on all but a couple of occasions and then relied on some outstanding last ditch defending.

It shows that Glasner is a pragmatic coach, but in all honesty his positivity and belief that we can win every game distinguishes him from Roy.
You sometimes felt with Roy that he saw success against the big teams as being a narrow defeat where we managed to keep the score down.
On some occasions it could seem defeatist.
Parish observed after Saturday’s game that Glasner has infected the whole club with a belief system.
If you think you can’t do something then there’s a good chance you won’t.

I’ve just come back down to earth, truly unbelievable…..

We got that bit of luck you need, but how many times this season has it gone against us all starting with the disallowed goal against Brentford on the opening day.

When all is said and done “ We are the 2025 FA CUP holders”

A handball offence is judged by the position of the ball when it's touched by the hand, so even though Henderson was stood inside the area, he touched the ball when it was outside. The assistant didn't spot that the ball was outside the area, so there was no free kick given, and the VAR cannot intervene just on this basis alone.

A goalkeeper handling outside the area isn't in itself a sanctionable offence. Whether there should be a yellow or red card, or no action, is determined by the impact on the attacking team. You don't get sent off for handball, but for the effect.

In VAR terms, Gillett can only get involved if he thinks there should be a red card for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO).
It was decided that as the ball was going away from goal, there was only the possibility of a scoring chance rather than it being obvious.
Good analysis and match my take on it

I didn't realise Allison managed you, asked my dad about it when it was mentioned on ITV.

I've never minded Palace to be fair. I'm sure we sold Granville to you when I was a kid and Sun Jihai popped up with you later on.

You're building a really solid team that's enjoyable to watch.
We had Sun Jihai before you, with Fan Zhiyi. First Chinese players in UK football.

Nice one Craig. Now we see the likes of you guys etc as big clubs so it's really surprising to understand that actually you've not had much yourselves. These Arabs really have ruined things that they could've made better.

I couldn't hold it together the last five minutes...I think I crushed my daughter's hand I was squeezing it so tight. It still doesn't feel real.

One of the big differences on Saturday was that Glasner got his tactics right and Pep didn't learn from all the previous times we've caused them problems. If they'd let us have more of the ball and allowed us to push higher up the pitch they would have gotten better chances. Instead they did the same they've done all season which is to try and suffocate the game and pass the opposition to death. They are so vulnerable on the break, especially against us. Pep for all his achievements needs to realise that when you have one big flaw teams are going to exploit it. And we did. Again.

The other big difference was that in the end our players and fans showed more heart and passion and that desire for a trophy meant some players (especially Hendo) looked almost possessed in their desire to keep the ball out of the net. I know we're biased but it genuinely felt like the FA Cup meant something again.

Me and my daughter are now looking at a map of Europe and dreaming!

I sensed that the tension amongst our supporters was high-volt crackly.
The tension was tauter than the strings on a well-tuned ukelele.
If someone had been eating a portion of chips I suspect one would have heard the vinegar sizzle.

Yep, and, courtesy of Bill Edgar in the Times today, he points out that an anagram of Dean Henderson is "Hand seen - no red".

I'm pleased Dean was voted MOTM on the club site, quite rightly. Whilst I love Munoz I was surprised he got the vote at Wembley.

In my humble estimation, Henderson was MOTM by some distance.
Munoz did however setup the goal, had a goal disallowed and largely kept Doku in check.

I found this on the Blue Moon website. Not a popular opinion over there but makes sense.

""Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.""
We were in 548 row 2 right above the incident - No-one - Ref, linesman, defenders, Haarland or any of the city players appealed for handball (and city usually surround the ref and appeal for everything ala Gigs et al Man U) - no-one around me said 'that might be a handball'

The game went on to the next phase of play and the only dispute was for the throw-in at the other end - then VAR intervened and it flashed up possible red card on the screen - everyone was like 'what's that for'??

Watched the game on TV later that night and none of the commentary teams on either side called it out at the time either.

Was good to see Grealish congratulating all the palace players at the end.
