For the older supporters…

I have supported our club through thick and thin and in all weathers since the 60s.
There have been memorable games over the years providing me with great joy but yesterday was the absolute pinnacle.
The greatest day in our club's history.
Hear hear. Me too. History made, finally. Very privileged to witness it.

What a time to be a Palace fan, but especially for us oldies who thought we'd never see it.

As a 10 year old I went my first game beginning of 60/61, got on the weong bus and arrived 15 minutes ilate against Accrington Stanley. I asked a chap ‘any score yet’, 4-1 he replied!
Johnny Byrne after 30secs and went to score 4, think the other scorers were Summerbee and Woan.
We won promotion that year but nothing compares to yesterday - the team was fantastic and support phenomenal, still tearing up thinking about it.
On my 3rd viewing of it now!

hi there all you youngsters! I first came to Palace in 1943, againt QPR, and have been coming ever since! I couldnt get to the final, watched it on a clubs big screen, and played every defensive clearance ! I woke up this morning completely shattered, but smiling, i have waited a long time for this, and I havent come down yet ! see you all at the victory parade !
Blimey - 1943. I thought I was doing well with my first match in 1954. I am of course thrilled to bits by yesterday's achievement, but for me April 1969, when we won promotion to the top division for the first time, will always be the biggest day in my Palace "career". My granddaughter was out and about in the Palace triangle last night and sent me some pics of the revelry, which took me straight back to that evening in 1969. I remember the "Palace dollies" (dreadful name) were out in the pubs, and according to my memory were in a very friendly mood. 😀

I was only 10 so unless they were handing out crisps and Cherryade their friendliness would have passed me by.

Nothing comes close to yesterday’s achievement. We played a class team (admittedly on the wane) in the most intense atmosphere imaginable and, in true Palace style, came good. And brothers and sisters it all started with us, the Palace faithful both in Wembley and all over the world, we live and breathe Palace and that love made our magnificent team stronger and more purposeful. “We few, we happy few will be remembered” Henry V.

Born and raised in SE25. SLAP! My dad took me when I was 8 to see us lose 2-0 at home to Peterborough in 1963. The love affair had started.
I saw most home games in the 63/64 promotion season, in the days of Holton and Burridge. I have so many lovely memories……singing under a half finished Arthur in 1969. Coming back from 2-0 down to beat Fulham on the final day to get promoted to Div 1. Queueing at 6am to get a ticket for the ManU first ever game in Div1. I could write a book about all my fantastic memories but now, as a 70 year old, I’m just full of tears of joy that after 62 years my beloved CPFC have finally, and deservedly, won the FA CUP.

For me the best match ever was thumping Villa 3-0 in the semis which I was not expecting.
First goal by Eze was unreal. Then Sarr with such a fantastically powerful shot for number two and his speed and power for number three. Amazing.
It was so unexpected. Yesterday it was so nerve racking, but we made it and hats off to everyone. Obviously a far bigger win. In fact our biggest win ever.
I also enjoyed beating Everton 4-1 at Wembley in the Zenith Data Cup. I was younger and fitter then, but still lost my voice.
I loved that team. Other than now they were our greatest. Andy Grey, Wright and Bright, Geoff Thomas, Nigel Martin, Johnnie Solako, Eddie Mcgoldrick, Eric Young ,(Ninja,) Thorn, Pardew? my memory is being stretched......
Our fans then were great, but we have grown as has football and with the Ultras driving us all on. Fantastic.

Totally agree. My 1st game was 64' not long after I moved to GB, my Newcastle supporting uncle to me to their home game v's us ( we lost 2-0), got told, Palace was my local team (lived in Mitcham) & that was who I should support, good advice from my Uncle.

I was 8 & as from next month it will be 61 years, God, so much has happened in that time. COYP.

John Humphrey and Richard Shaw were also in that team.
Martin Keown was in the Everton team.

Phew!! As an old bugger who qualifies for this thread, I’m still in recovery mode after yesterday. I’ve never known tension like that second half at a game. I think after our last two finals I was just waiting for the worst, especially when Munoz goal was ruled out, I’m sure I wasn’t alone thinking they’re going straight up the other end and equalising.
I’m not really an emotional type, but yesterday I thought I was going to have a panic attack at one stage with it all. It can’t be good for you health in your 60’s watching palace
I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck today, but it’s all worth it, it’ll never feel better than this, our first major trophy and we’re heading for Europe, I can’t wait to see the draw for that.

Nor in your 70s !

So, I'll give you a truly magical loop.

My first live game at Selhurst, in 1970, was a birthday present from my Uncle Bert who lived just round the corner. We played MAN CITY... superstars, Bell, Lee, Summerbee etc. we had to win to stay up in the first division. We won 1-0 after a great defensive display and stayed up on 27 points.

in 2025 we played MAN CITY again..... superstars..... and won 1-0 after a great defensive display to lift the FA Cup for the first time in our history. My journey has truly been worth it.

I've shared the pain that all the over 60's have been through over the years .Don't get me wrong we have had some brilliant times but that last step to major silverware has always alluded us ,sometimes we were robbed others just not good enough .
My family have been on that journey with me ,the highs ,the lows ,the maybe's and the administrations

Yesterday was our greatest day ,a dream many of us thought would never be achieved ,thank you my palace family

I was at the game back in the 70s.
Roger Hoy (Now sadly deceased) scored the goal.

Several posts recall the bitter disappointment of the 1976 semi-final defeat against Southampton. I went to that game at Stamford Bridge on my own. Afterwards I'd arranged to meet up with the wife and go to the Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia. I remember queueing disconsolately as they searched everybody's bags at the entrance. Then, when it came to me, they pulled out from my bag my crumpled Big Mal fedora.
What a miserable afternoon that was. The 1990 replay, too, was just depressing. I think we've earned the elation we've all been feeling since yesterday!

When you think how bloody miserable we can be after a loss in the middle of a wet winter they do have to pu up with a lot. I can be a real old git until my child bride brings me a bottle of red and consoles me with the words “ oh come, it’s Palace”.

It’s funny but during the elation at the final whistle and watching all the celebrations, young and old in tears, my mind wandered to how I sometimes feel walking up a cold dark Whitehorse lane after a lame home defeat having just watched the away team score in front of us and running to their fans to celebrate, it just reminded me of why we do it, thick and thin, the rollercoaster of emotions. As palace fans, we go through more thin than thick, but yesterday will stay with us all forever and make all those cold dark treks away from the ground in the depths of winter worthwhile
