Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest match thread

I thought Eze's penalty last night was terrible. His run up if you could call it that was all over the place I was waiting for him to trip up and fall over.

Fortunately for us he scored but if he does that again it's an accident waiting to happen. I just prefer players to hit the ball cleanly from a simple run up.
Many were saying that Eze's way of taking that penalty was against the rules.

I think they are allowed a short pause, I could be wrong. But at one stage his foot seemed to swing backwards. I wondered if it could be interpreted as a dummy.
I'm with others - just hit the f***ing thing. How about not even having a run up if you can lash it like that?

I also thought the same, especially with VAR. I thought they could interfere for a retake. I seem to recall a change in the rules some years ago where you are now able to stop/pause mid runup, but were not allowed to go backwards, which I thought Eze might have done?

Either way it counted and for the record i'm very much in the run and boot it penalty camp!

The kicker can stop during their run-up to the ball but cannot stop or feint (Pretend to kick the ball) at the end of the run-up, the ball must be kicked immediately.
Would have thought this stop/start run up would fall under the heading of Ungentlemanly Conduct but it seems not. Like grappling at corners it's just accepted.

For a team whose strength is built on the success of their defence I thought Forest look decidedly shaky last night and basically held on by a very City-like cynical tactic of fouling every time we broke away. They also really struggled to deal with our set-pieces, which were fairly routine. Overall, I thought we edged it, but I did think some players were not quite at their best which probably cost us the three points (Munoz's crossing was awful last night). The standout performers for me were Eze, Mitchell, and Henderson.

The one baffling thing was the VAR intervention on the penalty. First, it was as obvious a penalty as you could hope to see so not quite sure how the ref missed it, but then it took him ages to make his mind up despite seeing Mitchell being chopped down by not one but two players! What was he waiting for? Once again the ref shows leniency to the oppo when it comes to brandishing a second yellow to a couple of their players.
The referee might not have had a good view of the incident with players in his line of vision.
In terms of the monitor check, we don't know what communication occurred between him and the VAR.
It is feasible that having reviewed the incident he was making a decision as to whether BOTH the defender and goalkeeper were worthy of a Yellow card.
Other consideration might have come into play.
This incident will of course be highlighted in the forensic assessment of the referee's performance.

Monday night, bank holiday train hours, on sky sports and league is over. Surprised we had as many as we did. Tourists also don't really go to midweek games.

Agree tho that the home atmosphere has really declined these days.
Is it me or did I not hear Glad All Over but some Elvis tune? What the actual f***

Nottm For collected 8 bookings, one of them for Dominguez who is no stranger to a Yellow.

Apropos the PL 'Yellow' card table this season, Nottm For are 6th with 78 yellows, we are 11th with 72. Top of the table are Chelsea on 94 and bottom are Brentford on 53.
We should have no more than 70....

A fair result, both sides had some decent chances. As for Eddie Nketiah, he's like the kid in the playground who is trying so hard to impress and yet, for whatever reason, just doesn't have it. Relax Eddie, we want you to do well, although whilst Mateta is here you'll have limited game time.

Looks to me as though players are introducing various dance styles into penalty taking. Last night Eze broke into a bit of Riverdance. I'm looking forward to future penalties being taken incorporating traditions such as the Highland Fling, the Cossack Dance and perhaps a bit of individual Conga.

Even better if penalty shoot outs had to be conducted with each taker having to use a different style.

Meaningless game?not sure what you’re happy with but I want us to beat our highest premiership points total, and if possibly try and finish higher than Fulham and Brentford!!
Good for you.

Don't know if GAO was played but on TV I heard Can't help falling in love with you, a nod to the semi final banner I think.

I like the idea of having both, but the UB40 version of the latter

I thought we played very well considering. We contained Forest comfortably for 95% of the game and had enough chances to win in the second half. They got a bit lucky with their goal and should have been down to 10 men. The ref was awful again. He even missed the blatant penalty.

The only exception to a committed team performance was Mateta who seemed to be saving himself. I don't blame him. I want him flying in the final.

Quite a frustrating game. I'm grateful that none of our players got injured for the big game. I know the Prem is important,, but maybe on reflection in a few days, people might think a point against a top side isn't a bad result.
And when we have a buzzing , full squad for the final, we can give it our best shot.
We all know Wemberlee is in the back of everyone's mind.

The advantage should be with the penalty taker so he should be able to do any kind of run, feint, pause he wants.

You obviously missed the Newcastle effort.
