US Politics

The EU has blinked first! 😂

According to Politico:

"The EU has offered the United States a “zero-for-zero” tariff scheme, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said."

“We stand ready to negotiate with the U.S.,” she said.

One of the most sensible things the EU has done in years!

Surprised they are acting so quick. Maybe the markets put pressure on them 🤪

On industrial goods only. It’s a good opening starting point though.

Your first assertion was that there was no evidence that Brits don’t like Trump. Not that they hate him. I provided pretty clear evidence of that, which isn’t actually needed. You only need to talk to others and you can easily reach that conclusion yourself. It’s self evident.
The same ones who have always hated him! Nothing changed.

Hahaha. You really are the gift that keeps on giving. You want every single person to be asked before any opinion poll is valid in your eyes? Comical Ali levels of blind delusion.

Anyway, for the rational people, here is his latest YouGov polling: Donald Trump popularity & fame | YouGov

Popularity 16%. Actively disliked by 66%. But you can keep sticking your fingers in your ears and singing to yourself if you wish.
Worse than Zelensky lol

Imagine a world delivered from the chaos of United States and Israel.

Paradise.

We shoud join BRICS.

Peaceful co-existence, mutual co-operation.

Hopefully an end to our illusions about special relationships and 'allies' become more realistic, although obviously not in Ms Badenoch's case.

😎

Wtf 😳

'Incompetent cadre of yes men': CEOs furious at Trump team amid chaotic market spiral'

The think is though, didn't you kind of vote for them?

Brexit means brexit............

I watch both the US and UK coverage of US politics. The negative bias against all Republicans is pretty damn obvious, so it's no wonder many people don't like Trump or Vance.
It's untrue.

The negativity is directed towards the Trump sycophants who currently control the Party. Not towards traditional Republicans, many of whom are every bit as disgusted with what is happening as people are here. When it is found in so many places that disgust is not biased at all. It's rational.

It's difficult to find any attractive attributes that Trump possesses.

Tim Davies, a patriot ex RAF fighter pilot of over 20 years, does a stint on GB News essentially saying how this country needs strategic industries otherwise it leaves itself vulnerable. This is just common sense but he's right to call the 'uniparty' idiots as their dual obsession with global neoliberalism in every quarter has left us an increasingly second rate country without the skills we were once famous for.

So while we can criticise Trump for this sledgehammer protectionism and what it might lead to, we can also see the argument that some forms of protectionism are more than necessary. It seems we are caught in an argument of extremes.

Thatcher, like Trump, was an opposite reaction figure to the left's failure in government and she did some necessary evils with the economy. However, I remember when Thatcher started this 'neoliberalism' in anything and everything possible back in early 80s and I also remember Tory grandee McMillian calling it, 'selling the family silver'. He was right....it became a meme ideology and went too far.

However, she wasn't responsible for wiping out our military and some of the later privatisations, which were British Rail and Royal Mail. I remember that she voiced reservations about privatising British Rail in the mid 90s, which are concerns that have borne out (in effect aping McMillian). I think by the Royal Mail in 2013 she had had dementia for several years....I think she died that year too.

All the politicians and state officials who did this have letters after their name are heavily rewarded in society and retired on big fat pensions and all because they were part of the establishment's group think and did the deed that the self congratulatory system wanted.

Taking the big bucks while fecking it up.

That's what I drive. 2023 twin motor, 300kW. It's fast as fk
Slightly off topic, I got the entry level model, don't need range in Hong Kong, as you say very quick if you've previously driven a normal saloon car.

Volvo safety engineering, and the best thing here, under a government scrappage scheme ny 12 year old Toyota Camry became 50% of the cost of the Polestar.

Avoid BYD and the cheaper Chinese brands

This would take decades to actually come to fruition. The only rational reason I can think of, if there is one, is to massively devalue the dollar to make their debt less in real terms and make their products more competitive.

Seems to be some commentary coming from close to his inner circle that this is the grand masterplan, and mainly to devalue the level of debt that China holds over the US, but also make US exports more attractive.

It makes sense, but it's a hell of a risky gamble to take.

It would also make imports more expensive which on top of the tariffs would lead to hyper inflation. Foreign capital would drain away. With confidence shattered and trust destroyed who would make long term agreements with the USA?

I see it less as a gamble and more as suicide.

Both the US and Chinese economies (as would everyone) suffer greatly leading to social unrest. Which of the two could handle that better? The USA who put “freedom of speech” at the top of the page or China who puts protesters in jail?

But you were never with Biden at the helm? 🤣
Untrue, again!

In the last year or so I was. It was his determination to stand again that ultimately led to Trump getting back in and the mess we are all now witnessing.

Prior to that his administration had done well and delivered a post Covid recovery that out performed most of the developed world. He put together, and led, a team. He wasn’t a mouthy puppet being manipulated by political ideologues.
