A word of praise for Mitchell.

It was pleasing to see the reception he received when leaving the field yesterday, but this is part was driven by the great atmosphere in the stadium and the fact that we were winning.

If you were starting with a blank piece of paper and a choice of players, Mitchell is unlikely to be a first choice candidate to be a LWB in Glasner's system.
But there aren't many better defensively.
He manages to be tenacious and competitive without giving away silly free kicks.
He's surprisingly strong and is rarely outmuscled or outpaced.
For a competitive player, he also has a good temperament and seems to rarely booked.
He doesn't get much credit because of his low profile and the fact that he's not one of our more eye-catching performers, but he's certainly one of our most reliable.

Couldn't agree more. Very important player for us. Never injured, very consistent performer.

I’m still trying to get my head around what it is you’re asking for? Don’t rephrase though because I can’t be bothered with it.

There was slight contact mostly initiated by Nketiah who in my opinion then made a decision to go down with a theatrical late half swallow dive. I therefore get where the ref was coming from although from consistency arguments he probably shouldn’t have been given a card. I would like to see more cards for diving in the box particularly where there’s no contact as this needs to be discouraged.

Have to agree , whilst there was slight contact the swallow dive made it easy for the ref to book him - why did he not just try and get his shot off. The fact his response was pretty muted shows he knows he went down easily.

His performance after the booking was shocking. Even before the second booking he made another foul and slightly kicked the ball away - i thought that was madness knowing how card happy the ref was. The second booking was so avoidable, from a goal kick it was pretty obvious he would have a defender on his back so to raise his foot was always asking for trouble.

Have to say the 1st yellow for Guehi was also very harsh. The Brighton guy tried a trick which Marc read and actually blocked and then the player's momentum took him into Guehi - where was Marc meant to go? Maybe an obstruction at best, but definitely not a bad foul.

Totally agree with your comments about Guehi’s first yellow.

All he did was plant himself to brace for the impact from the Brighton player. I think the yellow had at least as much to do with their players pathetic ground thumping play acting as the actual offence.

for me many of the current crop of refs have clearly never played the game at a decent level.
When a player essentially just runs straight into you it looks awful but is almost impossible for the defender to avoid and if anything is clumsy play by the attacker.

If you want to take the ball past someone you do have to run around them/avoid them - that's a pretty basic concept.

Clearly some defenders will use their body to block an attacker, but a decent ref should be able to see the difference between an accidental collision and a deliberate one

didn't the ref in the World Cup final play at a decent level, and he was commended for his reading and understanding of the game, foul or not foul etc. There's definitely something to be said for this, following cricket's example with umpiring.

Its true, but for me has nothing to do with it.

I've never played at a decent level, but watch a lot.

Good touch, but he clatters into MG as much as its the other way round. IMO a foul but no yellow.

I also don’t think it matters if you’ve played at a decent level or not. You don’t need that experience but just get it over time if good enough. The speed of the game these days need outside help and where VAR should help. Sadly it still makes mistakes and in certain situations isn’t allowed to? The Nketia yellow card for simulation and Guehi’s first yellow could easily have been changed if VAR was able to look and correct. Mind you the second yellow for Guehi could then have been changed to a straight red? I thought it should have been which then makes me think how can anyone be certain?

I wondered about the concussion thing too. I’ve googled it but not really any the wiser. The protocol talks about a ‘staged return’ to activity. He actually looked fine at the end of the game and joined in the celebrations but I guess he will be assessed by the club’s medical team over the coming days. Quite hard to pick a back three for the Man City game if he is also missing.

He didn't land on his head. It was not a concussion. He was even arguing against coming off but OG had made it clear that his decision was final. Protecting his players health first. He should be applauded for that. Plus when he did land it was a heavy thump on the turf. Could have broken his arm or dislocated his shoulder as he landed awkwardly.
It was the right decision to bring him off at the time but he'll be fine for Saturday

silly sods should have chosen James Cleverley as leader, although I do find the current incumbent much more attractive, I'd even say she's the first party political leader I actually fancy, apart from Ian Duncan Smith who gave me the right horn 🙂
