Fulham v CPFC FA Cup Thread

Yes agree near perfect day. Three excellent goals and solid defence again. Knocking on heaven’s door here. Also if I was not born and bred Palace I would choose Fulham as the best place to watch football in London, lovely stadium and riverside setting is glorious.

However minor gripes.. colleagues have already covered the diving by Muniz and pettiness of Silva but how come they stopped away supporters from bringing flags and then issued every home supporter with one. Are flags dangerous or not perhaps just south london ones?). Thank goodness they didn’t have cause to use them after the prematch but our balloons were still pretty impressive!

Second what was the PA on about Fulham being London’s oldest club for, just to disrespect Palace and our well researched heritage back to the Crystal Palace staff cricket team in 1860s? Seems like no tricks missed to load dice in Fulham’s favour.

And then of course the minor issue of Daren England getting the referee gig, how many yellow cards was that for the Fulham fouls on Eze etc v the three harsh yellows for Wharton, Richard and Lacroix? Darren please bear in mind that when you play advantage for outrageous physical challenges like the one on Munoz that doesn’t mean you should not come back with a yellow after the event.

Nice day despite all that! Proud to be Palace
Silva got what he deserved- nothing 😀

OG was spot on when he said the team looked rusty after the recent break. Fulham could and should have gone in front in the opening 20 minutes. And although Darren England failed to punish Fulham fouls similar to the Palace ones that merited yellow cards in his eyes, I thought Wharton looked odds on to get a second yellow for that piece of uncharacteristic petulance.

Once Palace settled into the game and Ebs opened the scoring there only looked like one winner. The way the players go about their work in implementing Glasners tactical plans is truly impressive.

Interesting that 2 of the subs yesterday, Nketiah and Smith-Rowe, are expensive Arsenal cast offs that have both found it difficult to make an impression with their new clubs. While we have been critical of Eddie, yesterday he scored the kind of goal that I had envisaged him scoring when he signed for us. Fulham fans I have spoken to think that Smith - Rowe has been an overpriced disappointment. And I recall a conversation on HOL in which it was felt we should have signed him instead of Eddie.

A great day out was capped by Brighton suffering in that penalty shoot out. I always think that hurts more than losing in normal / extra time. Lovely 😀

Two things...

Silva complained that no one ever gives things their way...does he remember his team playing against 10 men at Selhurst Park? Or how about his team committing more fouls but getting no bookings and us getting four? Regardless, the first yellow for Wharton was soft and the ref didn't see Wharton dangle his foot at Muniz as the game had moved on. VAR can't get involved in bookings, so what's the story, other than Muniz is a big baby? Wharton needs to learn from this though, as some refs will buy into the theatrics of players like Muniz.

Second, I wanted to single Mitchell out for praise. During the first 25 minutes when we were camped in our own half he defended really well and had a big hand in keeping it at 0-0, then after some great ball control it was his pass that set Eze on his way to the first goal. I've not always sung his praises but I thought he was fantastic yesterday.

Wrong thread really..but actually having a game before we play Southampton on Wednesday could be to our advantage. The players will be sharper, and Southampton have also been on an extended break.

I thought we were extremely effective at negating Fulham's threat yesterday.
They are usually dangerous from wide areas, but Munoz played deeper than normal and was helped by Sarr who frequently was present to snuff out the combination play down Fulham's left.
On the other side Mitchell kept Iwobi quiet.

Although Fulham had the better of the early stages we still came closest to scoring with Lema's spectacular effort onto the bar.
Henderson was largely untroubled all game and aside from the early Munoz miss and the Sarr clearance near the line, I can't recall many moments of real danger.

I was disappointed that Hughes wasn't able to start as I think he and Wharton are the best combination in terms of the team retaining possession and building moves.
Nonetheless, Lerma was a strong contender for MOM and I, for one, can be guilty of undervaluing his contribution.
He provides a strong physical presence around the pitch, wins most aerial duels and his passing was fine yesterday.

I can see Preston pushing Villa today but just coming up short. I desperately want Bournemouth to win their match. That would set up 2 great semi finals all pretty evenly matched.

I think Bournemouth are better than City, but do wonder about Pep and the ref in any final.
Between, Forest, Bournemouth and Villa who would you prefer to play in the semi’s? I think Forest would be a good crack. My barber is a Forest fan and a good lad.

I am abroad as well. We watched the match in an empty bar in Teneriffe. The Teneriffe two were extatic. Magnificent team performance. Much Cerveza consumed.
Were you on the strip in Adeje? If so I know it well.. particularly the many bars. 😎

What a great day, couple of drinks for breakfast at Victoria, escorted by BTP to tube and on journey ( didn’t have to scan travel card as they raised the barrier), nice stroll along the Thames. Fantastic performance from team and fans. Fulham as a club should hang their heads in shame looking at the empty seats in P1&2.
Roll on Wembley

Especially the latter. Memories of Clattenburg.

Sponsors will not be happy without a rich 6 in the Final.
Agreed. No way Bournemouth and Preston will both win today.
If the sponsors want to sell the competition to a world wide audience, they must want us there for the atmosphere if nothing else
