I have just read a wonderful book by Sebastian Faulks called the 7th Son. It is about the cloning of a Neanderthal with a human via a surrogate mother. Really good debate on ethics and the future of civilisation. The child created by the cloning is bought up in Penge and turns out a supporter of our beloved Palace. Numerous references to his footballing abilities and likeness to Wharton. Gets a bit dense in places particularly around DNA etc, but well worth a read. I commend it to the House.

most people don't know that the Neanderthals had a bigger brain than most Homo 'Sapiens'. Ironic cos of the naming of the latter.
It was less of the Neanderthals going extinct, than really them being swamped by high-breeding newcomers. Some hybridisation happened, but was it a metaphor for a Welfare-class outbreeding a tax-paying class ?

Neanderthals are often portrayed as brutes. But i do not recollect them ever using nuclear weapons on each other. It is highly likely that their levels of teamwork exceeded ourselves. Can you imagine much of us surviving a deep ice age for 400,000 years ?

is it just a coincidence that the geographical location with the highest prevalence of Neanderthal DNA is also the place that started the Renaissance ? Tuscany.

Neanderthals are fascinating...........

Also very much of the Neanderthal dna is alive and well in East-Asia. Places like China......the new economic superpower.

I'll have to read some Sebastian Faulkes' stuff eventually, everyone who's read it says it's amazing. He's fascinating to listen to when interviewed, and so left field, Neanderthal Palace fan with a penchant for the gee gees! There's an original plot line. My old man told us he was from Czechoslovakia, either he was lying or there's a bit of that DNA where he came from, cos I don't want to make it about me but I do fit the profile of a seventh son.

If I did one of those genetic blood tests I’d be pleasantly surprised to hear I had loads of Neanderthal blood. I dislike most people and I’d wager Neanderthals would be better to go out for a beer and a curry with. Maybe not as chatty but that’s fine. Solid lads nonetheless.

I took one and discovered I'm 100% from the Congo.

This explains my love of irrational violence and also why I can't find myself at night.

I'm hoping for a Neanderthal vaccine so that I can support Millwall as this is closer to my hut.
