Why didn't Sørloth work for us?

We have, over the last 20 years, had very few successful strikers. The list is pretty much AJ, Murray and now Mateta. And even Mateta, 14 months ago, most of us would have sold.

And the answer is that we're just not a club who has been set up to encourage strikers to thrive with a lot of safety first managers.

Hopefully with the players and manager we have now, that is beginning to change. Sorloth is also a warning not to write strikers off to quickly. Nketiah, for example, could still come good if given a run.

I’m sure it was away in the FA cup at Burnley that Sonogo made his first appearance. I do remember wondering if he was an imposter because he didn’t look like a professional footballer- and there have been cases where imposters have managed to get on the pitch. He was rubbish. I wonder what he’s doing now?

I don’t think it is any one thing, though Hodgson’s record with strikers is definitely a factor. Sometimes the playing style, the league, the country, the age as others have said.

I don’t think we should right Nketiah off (or Kamada for that matter) just yet. It is a huge adjustment going from being an Arsenal side who are expected to dominate teams to a side who hit them on the break. Whilst Mateta is fit and scoring it isn’t having too much of an impact but our patience will have a limit.

I bet both Arsenal and Eddie wish he had stayed at the gooners now. There season has collapsed because they have zero options up front. Would not surprise me if they came a calling for JPM in the summer.

That would be in line with our usual dealings with them where we end up shafted and out of pocket.
 
It's no secret that Hodgson didn't work on the attacking side of the game in training. It was the same with Pulis. I remember Crouch saying he and another striker were just given a ball and left to do their own thing while the rest of the team worked on the defence. Similarly, Andros spoke about how RH never worked on attacking tactics in training. I'm sure that couldn't have helped Sorloth who often looked lost. I always liked the way he ran like a locomotive gradually picking up steam. Not sure what he's like now but he did supposedly have some attitude issues when he was younger.
 
Sometimes it's just not meant to be - Andy Johnson scored 8 in 83 games for Birmingham.
Maybe in Sorloth's case he was hampered by sounding like something out of a Tolkien story.
 
If Sorloth really wants to prove himself he should come back to the PL. It’s probably the toughest league in the world to score goals in high numbers.

Just saw Sorloth on the telly , in the champions league .
Immediately came on to see if any one was commenting .
Wonder if he misses the Palace and what could have been .
I'm not particularly fond of Athletico but i loath Real .
End of the day Athletico have two ex palace players , so hope they progress

If you think you’ve seen some dodgy VAR decisions in the EPL then you’ve just seen the mother of outrageous decisions in that penalty shootout.
