I only use it to get the menus for my local Chinese take-aways.

Well, that article makes for some pretty grim reading. On the basis of that I won’t be going anywhere near it.

I only use it to get the menus for my local Chinese take-aways.

I use it to find my nearest Chinese official.

Unless you are careful any of them could harvest your data. Mostly to analyse and sell to advertisers, which is why you get besieged with offers as soon as you show interest in anything. Which annoys me greatly, so I am now careful with every website. I would no more give access to Elon Musk than I would to a business based in China. I don’t trust any of them.

Use a VPN and control your settings. Stay anonymous. Don’t “sign up” in your real name.

Anyway, some people I respect are suggesting that VPNs are over promoted and a bit of a scam themselves. I use one myself and it's something I intend to look into.
