That pre season goal against Fulham

Does anyone recall that goal where we got caught upfield with Cardines hopelessly out of position and a far post opponent left completely unmarked? I remember thinking at the time, that’s odd and very slack. Sadly, it turned it to be the blueprint for our season under Sage.

The game against Bromley where we got spanked. The game against Freiburg when we played so poorly Sage essentially said he’d go back to Glasnerball as the team weren’t ready.

At the time you felt like Sage hadn’t had time with the first team…… roll on a few months and I think we look even worse.

It’s like we play a low block with a high press…… midfield 2 are completely exposed and there just doesn’t seem any tactical plan.

I agree. We are getting worse. And I really don’t like the sight of Sage nonchalantly stroking his fat chin on the touchline while his tactics suffocate our team. Even Henderson, Wharton and Mitchell are playing badly now.

It is some trick to make the good players worse. And agreed, the nonchalence doesnt help him in my eyes.

It's an excellent point. Many times people say the friendlies are meaningless. And of course often that is right. But these were a very good indicator of the problems to come. At the time I'd assumed they were part of the process of improvement as the squad came together under a new coach. But that hasn't happened and every opposition manager is laughing their arse off about how easy it is to play against us.

How is Cardines doing? A new manager coming in may just need him soon unless our two wingback options can play more defensively under him?

Well Bristol City got battered 5-0 today

The good news is that Cardines played but obviously doing so well that he was on the right of the attacking midfielders / front four - not in defence - and wasn't taken off - so he's clearly proven himself as an attacking threat. But then again they just got battered 5-0.

Their manager is going to be sacked soon of course if this sort of thing continues
