Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

That’s not looking - that’s tactics. There were 4 spurs players there, exploiting the fact we never cover the back post. That’s on Sage!
Have yet to find a tactic which says if there's a overload on back post of opposition players ignore them . We could have dropped just one other player in there.
The players shouldn't need tobe told the obvious things . Players need to take responsibility in them situations and react accordingly. That is called good defending.
If they get out jumped not alot you can really do other than nuisance factor try putting them off .
We have had this issue for more than just this season . Kane scored against us at the back post on many a occasion . Is it Roy's fault Glasners fault (ssssh Lanzo) lol . No our CB have had this issue for years .
It's just when things look bleak you look to blame the manager , in truth its the players inability to think for there self's

No, Glasner wanted forest for his 17.5m a year, a 12m a year pay rise, you have to laugh at Merry Knickers, Glasner is crap, and always was and will be, unfortunately Sage seems to work off the same handbook.
Have you read Glasner after match interview . Said he is going to change things . Watch this space

I'd keep Sage until Christmas unless the team quits on him. We've got such a hodge-podge of players that any new manager would require a month or two to figure them out. So far Sage has had to deal with the absences of Mateta, Sarr, Henderson, and Tomiyasu – and that's not counting the loss of Guehi, Lacroix, and Munoz, all of which has re-written the DNA of the team. And our fourth-best player from last season, Wharton, has inexplicably devolved from top-class to almost invisible.

Judging Sage right now is like judging an F1 driver in a car with 3 wheels.
My take.

But this job is brutally insecure so I would not be surprised if he doesn't last the week.

Absolutely incredible if you can’t see this as an error in our defending week in week out that can be rectified by the manager and coaching staff. It’s got to the stage now that we are shouting at players to defend the back post.

It’s the international break after Liverpool game which is when most managerial changes happen.

I’m not saying that sage has had it easy but I definitely wouldn’t say we have a “hodge-podge” of players. We have had quite a few come in but they all have their positions they play in and all (bar Gozo) have experience.

All of our defenders have played in or have the ability to play in a back three. Four of our midfielders have played in glasner’s system and Timber has club and international experience of playing in midfield. All our wing-backs have played there before. Our no.10’s are maybe playing a bit more narrower than maybe they’re used to but seeing as it’s mainly been Pino and Kamada then they have experience again of playing a similar role in glasner’s system. And the three strikers know how to play their role up top.

All the players have the ability to fit into the system we play but for some reason it’s not happening. Is it the coaching or is it that they aren’t good enough? They are more relevant questions for me. At the beginning of the season people were saying that we’ve finally got strength in depth in every position and it is true that we have got cover now for playing in 4 competitions but it just isn’t working out on the pitch and something has to change and unfortunately the buck stops with the manager when a team has twenty or so internationals in a squad and are still in the bottom three with not many signs that things are gonna improve on his watch.

Seemed a little bizarre that Glasner was allowed to stay for the full season even when he announced his departure mid season. The plan seemed to be wait until the end of the season knowing we had enough points in the bag to let him stay, assess, then recruit. No surprise that our form since then has been relegation bound. Completely lost any momentum since then and blown any confidence on the pitch.

He has said that the responsibility rests with him.

Therefore by your reckoning the new fellow might be up and running by February? By that time we'd be rooted at the foot of the table and no one recovers from that position. Sage should have gone earlier, he clearly doesn't have what it takes in this league, not all his fault of course, but if he'd done his homework he would have known what he was getting himself into. The same applies to anyone daft enough to take on the role and work with Parish and Hobbs.

Watching live I thought Mateta unfortunate to get a red. I thought he was caught out by van de Vens pace and didn't think he'd make contact. The tv replays indicate it probably did merit a sending off however.

And that was the game done.

If you're down to 10 men that early you can't do much more than defend in depth, and when you do have possession, make the most out of it. Oh, and don't concede from a set piece, because being a player short doesn't excuse that.

So I thought we did the first bit quite well. Rarely used what little possession we had to much effect though. And yet another free header....😡

It would be harsh for Sage to get the sack after a performance like that because the sending off influenced the game so much. And should a manager be sacked after losing to Liverpool ? ( if we do next Sunday ).

There are so many things wrong at the moment, on and off the pitch. If Sage goes then Hobbs should go too.

Parish is used to sacking the manager so I expect he has the script ready. Glasner did well to outdo him by handing in his notice and then offering to stay on, I doubt Parish saw that one coming! Poor Pierre Sage has nothing left to offer, his time is nearly up.

This is a fair assessment, but do you genuinely think Sage has the wherewithal to organise us defensively going forward?

It's not the Liverpool game in isolation that's the problem, it's the performances and results since the season's commencement.

Sage may be a decent coach in the right circumstances, but I'm not convinced he's right for us this season.
Wrong manager, wrong time.

Not sure how Glasner ‘outdid’ Parish there. He was one of the hot managerial candidates in Europe, then threw his toys out of the pram, publicly slagged off his owners and players, and took his team on an horrendous run of form.

He was desperate to be sacked and all he achieved was tanking his stock. He would have been a serious contender for the United job had he not blown it, and instead he ended up at Forest.

Meanwhile Parish didn’t rise to the bait publicly, we stayed up comfortably, and won another trophy.

Which one is it? Or perhaps it is both, interesting.

No I don't.

I don't seem him changing his set up. And a reliance on a back three of Canvot, Disasi and Richards isn't the answer.

Eh??? Glasner didn't want to stay on he wanted to be sacked, and who has Parish sacked that didn't deserve it?

I find it incredible that all fans applauded getting Sage in early before the world Cup and everyone seemed happy with our purchases in August now all of a sudden it's Parish out!!! Why?

Exactly they should be shouting not the fans . Which goes back to defenders not doing there job . Which is what I have been saying . Do you understand now .
And its not week in week out its year in year out . We only remember the defenders good things from the past not the mistakes . And there is loads

When we won the Europa Conference we should be strenghtening the squad we had then for the Europa League and Premier League but we didn't. Instead we did the opposite, sold our good players and brought in lesser quality inexperienced replacements.

Both?

From the pretty much the exact point he told the club he was leaving we went on a run if one win in 15, and got humiliated at Macclesfield. Bad results against KuPS etc.

We stayed up largely because we had points in the bag, not because he completely turned the form around?

Typical football fans really, Parish who runs our whole club is as good as our last few first team results on the pitch apparently, people sit in their seats or at home watching on TV all nice and cosy for 90 minutes doing fcuk all apart from paying for a game or a Sky subscription and they think they’ve got the right to demand the man who has the 24 hour 365 days a year stress of actually running the club leaves because of a bad run of results, unbelievable really
