Hughes

Not off with the fairies at all. Your opinion is valid, but it isn't right by default. Most of the comments I've seen attribute a decent amount of last night's victory to the increases solidity that Hughes (and Doucoure to be fair) gave us from midfield. Enjoy the fairies.
I know it won’t happen, but it would be interesting to see if we kept a clean sheet at spurs playing Hughes and Doucoure. My guess is we wouldn’t, but we’ll never know

We won because the opponents missed, which is the criteria which settles our results at the moment.

Hughes is a good second-string midfielder who will fight his heart out but he is not why we won.

Either our defenders will start getting the basics right or they will destroy any chance of this new system ultimately working and we'll be searching for a new manager.
Thought we won because we scored oops school boy error on my part

Also. I think of games this season where we lost because we didn't score (or score enough) - so obviously another schoolboy error.
Exactly Everton we should have been 3 up , Ipswich we missed chances leeds we could have won Newcastle we was the better team . Would you say they was lucky to win get a draw or they they took there chances . Name of the game is scoring and 2nd part letting in less than they scored . We have a long history of having only 35% procession less chances and out scoring teams . They miss we score we done our job

I understand the sentiment, but my problem with this sort of statement is that it’s only ever seen one way.

For starters, even the best defences still give up chances.

But more importantly, ‘we only won because they missed’ ignores the games like Besiktas or Everton, where we started well and missed sitters. We’re so hyper-focused on the defence giving up goals, when if Mateta, JSL or Nketiah had put a couple of chances away some of these games would have been completely different.

Understandable given that we have conceded 19 goals in 8 PL games.

Ultimately, this.

I do think fans can be biased to focus on their team not the opposition (we conceded because we’re rubbish/we scored because we’re good is far more common than attributing either to the opposition) BUT objectively we have conceded more goals, over a reasonable sample size, than most teams and no amount of goals scored would change this fact.
