We won because the opponents missed, which is the criteria which settles our results at the moment.Should be playing more than he is. Simple as that. Everything we're missing at the moment, he provides. Hence the clean sheet tonight.

Valid "In a nutshell" comment. We won because the opponents missed, which is the criteria which settles our results at the moment.
Hughes is a good second-string midfielder who will fight his heart out but he is not why we won.
Either our defenders will start getting the basics right or they will destroy any chance of this new system ultimately working and we'll be searching for a new manager.

Not off with the fairies at all. Your opinion is valid, but it isn't right by default. Most of the comments I've seen attribute a decent amount of last night's victory to the increases solidity that Hughes (and Doucoure to be fair) gave us from midfield. Enjoy the fairies. You can’t dislike Hughsey because of his commitment and I wish some of the others had his grit and determination. But he’s not got that premier league quality, he’ll always be back up.
Anyone who thinks he’s the reason we kept a clean sheet and it wasn’t Fulham’s ineptitude in front of goal and haplessness to punish us with all their possession is off with the fairies 🤣
I, like many have suggested, would sacrifice a CB and play Hughes as a 6, with Wharton & Timber / Doucoure ahead of them. Assuming Sage won't do that, I think I'd probably still start Hughes alongside Wharton and give him a strong solid 60 mins, then bring on Timber. I think Hughes gives us leadership and standards and organisation that no one else does on the field. (Henderson can't lead along from GK.)Who does he play instead of?

If we are to continue with a back 3, I would be happier with a more solid/gritty 3Hughes and Hendo certainly made a difference and Lerma needs to keep his place as well

I like the way you are thinking, however I would have Timber from the start and maybe Hughes as the sub.I, like many have suggested, would sacrifice a CB and play Hughes as a 6, with Wharton & Timber / Doucoure ahead of them. Agree about Timber's superior mobility. I guess my thinking is it's give and take - and I think I'd sacrifice Timber's increased mobility for the enhanced overall organisation and team spirit that Hughes brings. Timber is one heck of a sub to bring on at 65 mins though. And of course, they can switch out depending on the opposition and what each team demands.I like the way you are thinking, however I would have Timber from the start and maybe Hughes as the sub.
I have been quite impressed by Timber. I think he leads by example, and he certainly has more mobility than Hughes.

I wholeheartedly concur with this assessment of Hughes' attributes.I'm always content to see the name of Hughes on the teamsheet.
He may not have the individual attributes of other midfield players, but what he does do is bring balance to the team with his experience, organisational ability, reading of the game and simple and effective passing.
