I have always thought it was mad to hold the manager responsible for most individual moments in games, or even for individual results. What he is in charge of is the approach. Only when the individual moments in games and the results seem directly related to the approach can you start to look at the manager.

From what I can tell, Fulham had several good chances to score before we did, and it could easily have been a game where we were two down after 30 mins. Didn't happen, of course, but it doesn't exactly seem as though we tightened up at the back. The negative trend seems to have continued in that respect.

We had hardly any possession, and created very few chances. Again, negative trends continuing.

I mean, if we concede that many chances of that quality, and create so few, away to Spurs at the weekend, do we fancy our chances of getting a result? Even if we do get one, if it is following the concession of really good chances and creation of hardly any, it will not indicate progress to me. Luck runs out.

If we perform well, and the approach seems to help the players in keeping Spurs chances to a reasonable amount, and we cause a few problems ourselves, I won't mind too much if we lose. There is plenty of time left in the season for things to come good if the approach is the right one. That's the key. I am not sure last night gave me much reassurance on that front.

I think we have to make some allowance for the fact that we basically fielded our B team who haven't played together in a real game before last night. Yes, Fulham were their usual hopeless self at the Cottage when it comes to putting away their chances against us (rather like us at Everton) possibly a psychological issue for them (and us v Everton). We were much better 2nd half and should probably have wrapped the game up.

As for Saturday, apart from Henderson for Benitez, I don't see any changes to the team that started against Newcastle although Sage now has a better idea of which of the B team should be his likely subs.

Indeed "One swallow doesn't make a summer" and of course Fulham should have been 3-0 to the good before we scored.
But they weren't though were they? Their problem not ours.
Fans of this club are quick to slag off our players for missing opportunities and not taking chances. We cant have it both ways and start criticizing our own team when the opposition do the same!
We scored, they didn't. In the end thats the only stat that fans care about.

I just believe that we were highly fortunate that Fulham missed some gilt-edged chances and the fact that they were presented with such opportunities is a concern.

Your scenario and summing up is frankly pathetic, and shows you total lack of knowledge of virtually all footballing matters, thank god you have no actual input into the club, and can be dismissed like an annoying fly.

This post is far too sensible. Saying , as a positive, that we won with our B team isn’t allowed on here.
It’s only allowed when discussing Boro/Besikstas games as a negative towards Palace getting a couple of decent results.

Same as us missing chances in games we would have won doesn’t matter, but other teams missing chances, when we win, makes our victories less, apparently.

We haven't really dominated a game, missed a load of chances and been unlucky to lose this season though. If we were actually playing well I think there'd be a bit more optimism that we can turn it around.

But getting a win, by whatever means can sometimes lead to better things (although it didn't really after Fulham or Forest).

I really hope it is the beginning of something for Sage and the team however the way we played and defended last night doesn't give me a huge degree of hope for Saturday. Of course I'd love to be wrong though.

In my view if Sage switched to a 4141 formation we'd actually be a lot more solid and we'd actually get a bit of possession to allow our attackers more than 2 touches. I do like some of the things he's done with the attack but can't help think the formation hinders this rather than help.

It won't happen but on current availability I'd play:

------------------Hendo -----------------
Khalili Richards Disasi Mitchell
------------------ Lerma -----------------
Pino. Kamada Wharton McNeil
------------------Mateta ----------------

Tell the back 4 to defend first, Lerma provide extra protection and let the midfield have a bit more control instead of being overrun with just two in there. If Timber was fit I'd probably start him over Wharton. Osorio I think could also be useful going forwards.
