The Press. What Press?

Posted this on the match thread but needs its own one. Any attempt at a press was absolutely awful today. Yes we were playing a very good side but we let them do what they wanted. Pressing is such an important part of the modern game and if Sage won’t or cannot implement one we are going to to let in a shed full of goals and he’ll be sacked sooner rather than later. Even our wins against Fulham and Forest we were wide open and should have been hammered And while he’s at it he can suggest to our defenders that they pick up players at the near post from corners.
At the moment it’s an absolute shambles…..

Can’t argue against it. The team shape this season has been abysmal. I cannot fathom what he did at half time yesterday but it was shocking to me that he didn’t make wholesale changes. Timber for McNeil was a strange one.

Even last weekend against Forest he just didn’t make any changes at half time, ok we got away with it but it was luck over judgement.

I don't think i've seen a meaningful high press in any game this season.

I was expecting similar to Liverpool under Klopp where all 3 forwards sat on the edge of the opposition box at every goal kick.

Not seen anything similar under Sage. Teams seem to build from the back quite easily against us.

Under OG we saw are far better press in phases with a combo of sitting back being organized. (We would then counter quickly)

This guy has done neither.

I don't believe that is on the players.

I expect it's because he wants to play possession flowing football which is what he did in France well Sage Palace are not good enough for that plus the English Premier League in is a different level only top teams can do this which have world class players. (You have to use your own players strengths and work style around that)

I just don't think anyone respects him he has done nothing which is why they are not buying into what he is doing and is already pushing some players aside or criticizing them while others who are not performer still get selected even made into being new captain.

What puzzles me the most is why he keeps changing players around especially at the back all the best teams stick with same players and only rotate when they have to.
