The Brexit thread

That was bloody weird. Firstly, it was all about Russia doing it. Then they said Russia failed. Which means Russia was actually for Remain?

When Burnham crashes and burns, I suspect this will be soon as the first sign.

this and cosying up to the man city cheats!! I don't think it'll be long til the puppet masters find a new puppet!!

The fact that the Far-Right are really doing well. We could potentially have the AfD running Germany and the National Rally running France. Along with the potential of VOX in Spain. And whilst I accept that Meloni has been a bit of a disappointment, its still a nominally Far-Right party in charge. This is the Europe I could really get behind.

there always seems to be a hell of a divergence between the will of the european people and the various political institutions

We've got a budget soon with no money, and a spending review due too. It'll be interesting too see how these land.

Performative shallow nonsense from our Andy since he became PM, " when I gave a speech at the UN ", no one gives a flying thing about that.

He lied to Parliament about what he said on the podcast , where are the consequences.

God help us all

Did you know, he was the Mayor of Manchester? Echoes of “ my father was a toolmaker”

There is a UK-EU summit on 20th November, so AB has five weeks to put everything together with them.

I read the Mirror poll today, 70% would rejoin against 30% from 2500 votes polled.

I don't think anyone is looking forward to another referendum with all the division and uncertainty.

There has to be a democratic mandate however.

I wouldn't be surprised to see rejoining as number one policy in a labour manifesto at an early general election, the boxes by then having pretty well been ticked.

😎
2500! Whoopie doo. As is a popular comment on here, it’s only the……( add your own outlet)

No - as the Head of M15 clarified yesterday, there was Russian interference but it didn't have a significant impact.

Trying to interfere with an election is very complex and rarely succeeds.

Russia has been doing it across Europe for years

The major interference in any election comes from our home grown political parties, lying through the teeth to the voters.

So these scary Russians are actually pretty rubbish at all this malarkey? LOL.

Let's assume that the Russians wanted us to leave the EU.
And we do leave.

But that is actually all a big loss by the Russians?? How do they actually quantify that 'loss'?

Because if the Russians wanted us to vote to leave, and look to interfere, and we end up voting to leave.... then surely the Russians got their way?

Or is this just bullshit from Burnham looking to try and blame anybody other than the shitty Remain side he was part of?

A gain?

I don’t think even the most addicted smoker believes smoking is a sensible way to spend money. Making it cheaper for one, means more cost loaded on everyone else to replace the lost revenue.

Smoking related disease costs us all huge unnecessary amounts and overloads the NHS.

Hardly a gain for anyone! Poor health for those who smoke and cost for everyone.
I hope he was joking. Otherwise I laughed at a serious point.

The only country buying Russian gas was Germany I thought, part of the Angela M legacy?

Ok GBnews but very worrying

The only worrying thing I see is the spin that GBnews are putting on this in order to wind up their users.

My reading of this is that it is a pragmatic, common sense arrangement with benefits for everyone except illegal migrants. The fact that EU Judges would hold oversight over EU records is hardly a surprise. It’s their records after all.

It's not a difficult point.

Russia interfered.

Their interference did not affect the outcome.

It is Farage saying there was no Russian interference at all that is weird.

Be interesting to learn how the European Court of Justice can have any jurisdiction over us?
What we want is some sort of treaty whereby a failed asylum application anywhere in the EU is also effective as a failed application here.

The UK being the next application post is killing us on illegals.

If this is a step in that direction, and the price is not too prohibitive, then anyone who claims to oppose illegal immigration will need to be ready with their argument that these proposed measures should also be opposed.

Except I believe that most migrants who arrive do not claim asylum in other countries as they risk being deported if they fail?

I agree with your proposal but I suspect we are talking about a subset of people, so not sure how effective that would be.

Many have claimed asylum in other European countries before travelling to the U.K. For years, Italy would tell them they could not stay there and would give them 7 days to leave, there was no official deportation. The Afghan who had the AK47 tattoo was a failed asylum seeker in Sweden. It seems a European wide problem that failed asylum seekers are not deported.
