Selhurst Park - Nottingham Forest 10/11

You two c**** need to get a room and bugger yourselves to The New Den and back!!

That's my little input but we'll done lads you've sorted it for young Pat.
Part of me thinks we've made this seem more like a clique which wasn't my intention. He'll call me something offensive soon and be fully welcomed to the fold!

Hahaha. Is it true that the “C” word doesn’t carry the same negative connotation in Britain as it does in the US? Almost like a term of endearment? I called my sister in law that one time, and she hasn’t spoken to me in years.

And what’s a wanker? Is it to be taken literally? If so, doesn’t that make us all wankers? Or does it just refer to Americans that w***?

These are the types of questions I should have asked in my original post. F*** where I should eat or drink. Or what sights to see.

Depends on the generation I think. The younger lads at work (in their 30s) happily call each other the C word. I am mid-40s and I don't know if I have ever said it out loud. I'm not big on swearing at all though. Not a prude, just save swearing for special occasions.

We say w**ker like it's offensive but I quite like the recognition of my contribution and dedication to masturbation and it's history.

I would say that if an American tried to call a Brit either of these things we'd get all grumpy about it!

Same here. I try to cut back the cussing cause of the kids and all, so when I do, I need it to count.

Trying to figure out if there is an American equivalent to Wanker. Maybe MF’er? Except MF’er is more of an add on than a stand alone insult. Like “…that <insert description here> MF’er!”

I blame Ted Lasso for making us think Brits do nothing but swear.

I had my arse tattooed by a New Yorker and somehow the New York accent seemed to make him able to say whatever the hell he liked. He repeatedly called me motherf**ker and I didn't feel too offended. Anyway, I reckon you could call everyone that when you get here even though you aren't from NY. Just don't let any doubt creep in and use it liberally.

Try bellend. It's a good one for using when talking to a c***.

It’s all in the tone and context.

An example: A friend could turn up wearing a b****** (terrible) shirt and you would say ‘ Look at this c***’ and have a laugh. Or you could be at dinner and your friend or relative could say something like, ‘I think labour are doing a smashing job’ at which point any normal person would say ‘Listen to this wanker, what a c***’ and again laugh and take the piss (mock).

Now next example. You are in a situation, you have the hump, an argument happens and the other person says ‘listen c***… I’ll…’ at that point you cut that c*** off and fill him in (punch him in the face) before he can finish saying what he was about to say. Or you have an argument and somebody you don’t know calls you a c***… thats a problem.

Last version. Oliver Glasner is a c***. He is c*** of the highest order along with his chairman. Glasner is the worst sort of c***… a disloyal lying c***.

Wanker for us is like ‘Jerk’ to you or ‘Knob head’ to a northerner… not really offensive at all.

I hope that helps but I’ll probably just get a called a c***.

You missed one. A lady may remove her undergarments and you might wish to say "what a lovely c*** you have".

If she's from Croydon she'll probably put her cigarette down to thank you. In some other areas of the UK it may offend.

I’ve been too depressed to come back to this board until now…the day before we were supposed leave, we got the call from both kid’s schools that they were throwing up. Then of course the next day, it hit me and my wife. I was ready to puke and rally and get on the plane, but she refused to leave with the kids sick (probably the right choice).

Needless to say, I am heartbroken. The whole reason I insisted on taking the trip when we did was because I wanted to see Selhurst the way I fell in love with it before it turns into a construction zone and they redo the main stand.

I am already looking at future dates, but I will not jinx it and post my plans on here until my happy ass is literally sitting in the airport fixing to board the plane. Thanks to all you kind folks who gave great advice. I had planned on taking advantage of a lot of it. I will get there one day. In the meantime, I hope y’all don’t mind me sticking around on the board…

F*cking brilliant game though 🙂
Id write to the club to tell them of your plight. Don't ask for anything but tell them you're coming back later this season and just wanted to send congratulations on a brilliant result

You never know... It would be a great story and the club are very keen to promote the club to the US market.

Now that would be awesome…The club has been amazing. They could not have been more helpful and accommodating while I was trying to plan the trip (Sam C is the man by the way. If any of you know him, buy him a beer on me). I emailed the box office on Saturday to see if I could transfer the tickets so the seats wouldn’t be empty, but they didn’t get it until it was too late. They refunded my money without me even asking. I just felt terrible that I used up two tickets that could have been used by someone else and fully planned to eat that cost.

But that last part of your post is my favorite thing about being a Palace supporter in America. Every time I wear my kit out in public someone stops me and asks how the hell I ended up a Palace fan and strikes up a conversation. Made some good football watching friends that way and maybe even convinced a few to pull for Palace. I would actually be curious to know how many Americans have watched When Eagles Dare because of me 🙂. Like to think I’m doing my part, haha.
