Main Stand redevelopment thread

Without mega rich owners we wouldnt get funding for it.
Well, we don't seem to have funding for it as things stand!

Perhaps they act as a guarantor. We don't know that, though. Even if they do, the fact remains they aren't paying for it. If the stand was a no-brainer money making scheme then they surely would have, even if only in the form of personal loans to the club.

Ultimately, some pretty smart, very rich people who do this for a living have looked at details that none of us can access and decided not to put their hands in their pockets.

That about sums it up. It ain’t happening is it.

New share issue, or potential tax problems

Exactly, take them away and what do we have, a club that gets 150 million a year, which about 80% probably goes straight on players wages. That could be relagated this year. I don't see too many banks queuing up to lend us £200 million.
I get that, but you are presuming the Americans are prepared to act as a guarantor, and we just don't know that to be true.

I still think it will, but slowly, and in chunks the club can bite off and chew.

The beauty of the scheme is that the old main stand stays in place, so there is not much lost if the pause button has to be pressed between various stages. It's not like once we start we have to finish it urgently as we are missing out on ticket sales.

In an ideal world, I think they would be stupid to use the players as assets and make us less competitive on the pitch to pay for a stand but if we were to get a stupid offer for Wharton, say between 130-150 mill, which unlikely but not unrealistic. I don’t think it would be a terrible idea to use some of that money to fund the new stand.

There was, and remains, a lot to be said for selling the crown jewels and just sinking it all into the stand.
Add up what we got for Eze, Olise, Guehe, LaCroix and the stand is done and paid for. No debt. A legacy to last for decades.

I know we might go down, and I know we won't need the stand if we do, but we have hit a glass ceiling and can't get past it, and any good teams we put together get broken up anyway, so it could be seen as one step backwards to take two steps forwards.

I think Parish sees the new stand as his legacy and perhaps will step aside once it’s done. And what a legacy (hopefully) he will leave- a shiny new stand, 3 major trophies and getting on for 2 decades in the top flight!
Yes, I think Parish will see the stand built and then give up his control. Hopefully, those coming in will be sporting people who want success on the pitch. I also hope they see that Selhurst Park needs to be completely upgraded in order to compete with the big boys. The two go hand in hand.

I was down there today as the few staff clean up ready for the weekend There are no builders and nothing is happening even after the three week hiatus. We need someone very rich who understands the game to take over. There is no point with yanks who are scared of relegation. What would also help is the big banks and finance companies calling in there their massive loans to Liverpool, ManU etc.

Selhurst Park will never in our lifetimes be upgraded enough to compete with the big boys.Thats a pipe dream that won’t happen. As for the American owners all they are interested in is their vanity and us staying up to see their investment grow. If we’re valued at £900m now that means that they’ve doubled their investment already for effectively doing nothing. And Parish deals with all the day to day hassle! Why would they want to give us any money for the stand?Nice work if you can get it…..

Particularly as Woody Johnson is nearly 80! As Touker Suleyman says on Dragons Den ‘I’ll be dead before I get my money back’. Poor old Woody might be dead before the bloody thing gets finished!

Its a huge risk tho we all know premier league survival is the clubs no 1 priority. There's such a fine line between survival and relegation. You listen to the pundits every year and they will say we're comfortably a 12th-15th place club but we all know its never really that comfortable and we're usually only a couple of loses from being dragged into the bottom 3.

50 million invested into the squad could quite easily be the difference between survival and relegation.

Its all so easy with hindsight but the Americans were very aware of relegation when they invested. How much is Leicester worth right now ?

They made a huge risk investing in us and im glad they've doubled their money. Let's be honest if you're looking for a quick profit, I doubt any financial advisor in the world would tell you to invest in a football club.

Woody Johnson has bought into an established Premier League Club based in London with one of the best Chairmen in the game. Every business is a risk but maybe not a huge one in our case.
