On my recent European holiday UK passports had to use the Others line . No e-gates for chipped passports.

Add to that the EES SNAFU it paints a sorry picture of the EU project in action

In Asia now most countries including Japan, Thailand and Indonesia allow most chipped passport to use e gates.

I read a while ago that the system hadn't been tested

I can tell you that when I flew a couple of times recently that the British queue was a few seconds, whilst the EU queue was really long. And those machines were on, although I've also seen them turned off.
What I wondered is if they target the flights out of the UK? Which wouldn't surprise me.

Just back from Albania we had to use the E Gates along with the EU passengers, no problem and Albania is not in the EU but is shadowing as they want to join.

In fact I went to Malta and Sicily earlier this year. UK was separated from EU queue but to be honest it only took 1 or 2 minutes longer.

The press keep missing this, it's all about having the correct number of staff and e-gates. The airports where they have reported chaos e.g. Italy and Greece have always had problems because they don't seem to want to invest so it's nothing new.

I don't care if we have to queue separately.

Italian chaos at airports is indeed the standard. Turn up three hours early to be sure - or more.
