Manchester City has been found guilty on 114 of 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League for breaching financial regulations between 2009 and 2018. (Congrats to Man City for beating that single charge)

We have to be looking at historic punishments. Everton and Nottingham Forest got smacked for PSR for breaches but Man City goes so far beyond that we are looking at something new entirely, a likely relegation for a top club.

My guesses:

Likely:
- Record setting heavy fine.
- Massive point deduction.

Possible:
- Titles striped. It becomes a moral victory for the runner up.

Unlikely:
- Expulsion / Mandated Relegation. I think they get a massive deduction that assures relegation this year instead of forced relegation. But that is just my guess.

I agree. Something like a 60 point deduction would relegate them. No point giving them say 30 which would be no great punishment. This is the worst case of sustained fraud in English football history and they are going to be properly punished.

I hope you're right but it'll likely be a points deduction which will stop them getting into Europe for a season, a sizeable fine (which will be peanuts for them) and then some sort of pathetic suspended transfer ban.
 
Anyone know how much worse than Chelsea got? All Chelsea ended up with was a fine and a ban for bringing in new signings I believe? We all thought Chelsea would get hit hard, so I doubt Man City will get a pummelling this time around?
 
The fact that City have been found guilty on all but one count means that the premier League itself has suffered significant reputational damage. That can't be undone so the League will be expected to dish out the severest of punishments, otherwise they will lose all credibility IMO.

In my book relegation to the Championship isn't harsh enough. They'll be back in the PL in no time. ideally, they should be shunted down to non-league football and made to work their way up again.

It's a question of applying a sanction "pour encourager les autres" as the French would say.

Yeah, I think all of us know the realistically this means nothing and City will carry on as normal.

Let's fantasise though. For the next 5 seasons they have to field a minimum of 3 pedestrians selected at random like jury duty. And wear hats which must not fall off otherwise they concede a penalty.

I dont think your far away , if they dont get a 40 to 50 point deduction at least then might as well stop watching football , Scotland got it right with dropping Rangers to bottom tier of Scottish lge , and I think Juve got dropped 1 lge , its been a complete joke the whole affair 😡
 
We shall see what comes of this. For all the talk of Everton and forest getting told off, there isn't an obvious previous case on these shores that is similar to that of Man City.

From what I can tell, Glasgow Rangers (different FA, I know) were found to have disguised payments to staff and players as loans or something, unlawfully avoiding tax liability. The subsequent tax bill was a big part of them going bust, which is why they had to start again in the lowest division. They were not demoted as a punishment for financial irregularities. In any event, Rangers were allowed to keep their trophies as the FA felt the financial dealings hadn't affected on-pitch matters.

City is different, perhaps. They obstructed the investigation, passed off large sums of the owners money as sponsorship, and hid wage payments. The latter two surely gave them an advantage on the pitch given the effect of FFP etc?
 
A wide range of predictions. Are there grounds for an appeal? Their brief, Lord Pannick, charges £5000 an hour (yep that's nearly as much as a City player) and presumably knows his stuff, so I'd wouldn't be surprised if this went on for another year or two.
