It's being reported that our PM is considering lifting the ban on drinking inside football stadiums.

I can't get to matches these days, but there has always been serious drinking going on outside and inside grounds before the match starts. It seems to me like another of Burnham's little policy tweaks aimed at winning votes that will likely ignite more trouble among supporters.

As a youngster I would go round the Holmesdale terrace picking up emptied beer bottles and taking them back to the drinks hut to get a penny for each one I collected. I don't recall fights breaking out though.

The Police would require more money so it's very likely just more PR from Burnham......which is basically his only strength.

But I wouldn't fancy being drenched over a consolation goal in the middle of January. Or having people pass me every 5 mins to go to the toilet or get another pint.

I went to a rugby game last year and it was just a constant up down up down every few mins.

quite. Especially if it was then ruled out by VAR.

Football is almost a completely different game to any other sport. There's a lot of emotion in the game and relatively few scoring occasions (compared with say rugby). No one wants to miss a goal just because people in front of them are passing to and fro.
As others have said, getting drenched by flying beers or having to stand up/sit down endlessly (it's not just your row that's affected, people standing up in rows in front of you will force you stand up) will be chaotic. Imagine someone is just passing you with beers when a goal is scored...cue mayhem...spilt beers... accusations of who's at fault...pushing/shoving and stewards on minimum wage trying to sort it out. No thank you.
It's okay for Burnham.... he'll be in the posh seats.

Even back in my youth when I did drink a bit more than I do now, I’ve always thought if people can’t go 2 hours inside a football ground without an overpriced warm tasteless cheap lager in a plastic bottle where they have to queue and miss part of the game, they’ve got a problem. People up and down going to the toilet are a pain in the arse as well

For me taking a beer or whatever your fancy to your seat would be great as it would save necking that last one before KO or your third at half time .

The bar should close as normal though , as said we cant have people in and out , up and down all game

I have no problem with people drinking beer inside the ground .
I would not do it , as I go to watch the football.
As for throwing cold beer around when we score , we can take in hot drinks tea ,coffee etc which would course more damage than a cold beer .
So lets ban hot drinks and sticky drinks like cola .
In fact lets ban all drinks inside the ground including the one's you bring in yourself .

agreed. And also the effect of alcohol making people wanting a fight. Not good.

The money-men want to sell more booze. Watch the game in the pub if you really insist on imbibing.

The decisions just change from "She's a bit of a psycho but it'll all be fine" to
- Of course I can dig that trench. Done it loads of times.
- No, I don't need a slash before we leave.
- This sofa is a bit low but I'll be up off it with no trouble
- Let's have a few more pints. Nothing keeps me up at night.
- I'm not paying a bloke to do this. I'll do it myself.
- Nah, it's not that far. Let's walk.
- This feels dubious but it's definitely a fart.
