I know labour keep reminding us but we had 14 years of a tory government who were supposed to be "right wing" they allowed the boats, unchecked immigration and wokeness to overcome the country.

Spot on. The (mainstream) Right have lost even more credibility than the Left in my opinion. This is what we have to wake up to.
 
Governments have lost credibility. They are utterly incompetent at governing and their general remedy for everything is more government and more taxation. We need less government, less government spending and less taxation.
 
Someone somewhere, helped by the media, has done a brilliant job of convincing everyone they have to be far right or far left and wear their colours in public. I think I am right of centre based on arbitrary criteria being pedaled, but if I take a step back I can't pigeonhole myself. I agree with some things that we are told are left wing, some that we are told are right wing. In actuality, whether they are left, right or do the hokey cokey makes no difference to me. They are just someone else's categorisation usually based on a comparison with their own chosen start point anyway.

When it comes to voting I can't find anyone that has 100% the same views as me. I vote for what is nearest to my views, recognising that I might wholeheartedly disagree with some of what they espouse.

Am I different to most people in society? I don't think so. I look around at work, and amongst my friendship group, and I see us as a bunch of moderates with no extreme views. It's not convenient for anyone's narrative for us to not be extremely polarised but we're not. I don't think many people are on here either, not really. We perhaps debate our views passionately because the tribal battle is amusing to us (as is baiting someone), or because it spirals as each "side" debates each other but I don't really see it.

If someone wants to tell me my views are extreme right or extreme left, great. Write that analysis down for me and insert it up your bum. I don't care.

There's a very passionate lefty at work. Let me pause on that sentence because it contradicts what I just said in previous post. He's badged himself that. Or society has. Or the media has. He knows I am one of those 'evil' people that votes Reform (at the moment) but we sit and debate and recognise that we both want the same things. Who actually WANTS people in the world suffering poverty, dying in wars or missing out on much needed healthcare (for example)? I've not really met anyone that does. Not on here, not anywhere else. What we disagree on is the semantics of how those things are avoided. I generally think we all want the same utopia but don't agree on how that could be achieved. I generally try to remember that when I debate on here (actually, I mostly avoid this section of the forum, but I appreciate I have clumsily waded into a few debates and not managed this very well).

But I suppose it's entertaining if Palace aren't winning trophies for a few weeks!

I have said this many a time, but if I see someone on the street in a Palace shirt I will say "up the Palace" to them and be happy I saw them. I don't care what political opinions they hold.

That's brave of you! I completely steer clear of politics in the workplace. One "wrong or offensive" opinion and it's all over.

Obviously we shouldn't live in fear of having sharing our own opinion but the left are a different animal, where you can get fired and cancelled or sometimes worse!

In most cases you can tell someones is a lefty as they will tell you and boast about it. Wheras someone with more conservative views keeps it to themselves.

I'd say all mainstream political parties in most countries I know anything about are losing all credibility. The main issue in every one seems to be immigration and it's knock on effects. Governments and politicians seemed to have decided that people are just wrong as they push their agendas. I don't think the buy off in election year will work anymore.
It probably will in Ireland but other countries are going to be "right" wing or divided between far right and far left.
Remember it was the politicians who broke the consensus of politics. To push their immigration agenda without any type of agreement from the people. The consensus has gone. There's not one of us here who'd rate our governments as even adequate. They are at best incompetent, at worst fraudulent.

You are in Ireland. The political class there sold-out out your country to mega-corporations over the last few decades for a nice, low-touch, skilled-worker base in the EU market.

The reality is imported workers, more diversity than the UK, around the highest prices in Europe (around the highest in the world), housing crises, health crisis, but you do nearly have something - which is a massive over reliance on a few US corporations for the entire tax take.

Interesting to learn from a native. I wondered how it works as I look on with Celtic eyes here at a Celtic Tiger economy.

Seems to me that everyone who votes for Reform should be prepared for this scenario on steroids - massive deregulation and lot's of friendly Commonwealth immigrants imported in (legals) to bend and scrape to the all powerful, Tech, Crypto. Pharma and Finance juggernauts. Nigel and co keep this strategy very quiet. Sky high prices and lots of new foreign neighbours - come on Reformers, is this what you really want for good old Albion? Seems like a nightmare to me.
