Leeds Predictions.

If we are sticking with a back 5 when defending, I would be tempted with:

Mingueza Richards Tomiyasu Lerma Mitchell

Mngueza over Khalaili for defensive ability. Lerma over Ahanor/Canvot for heading ability.

I would have a midfield 4:

Kamada Wharton Timber Pino

To be better equipped to battle their usual midfield 3 and help limit crosses into our box. If Sarr is available and “up for it”, I would put him in for Pino.

WTH JSL leading the line supported wide by Pino and Kamada when attacking.

This 11 is particularly aimed at trying to cope with a rampant physical Leeds team. I do not know if this would work but I am pretty sure our recent setups will not.

This is a tribute to good coaching and strong organisation.

At the moment we don't have a strong foundation and the back 3 are playing like strangers.
The distances between them are too great, leaving big gaps for the opposition to exploit.
I don't see that changing in the near term as Disasi's absence for 3 games means more disruption, even if he presumably features in Europe.

All highly experienced players.

Clyne and Ward well versed in the ways of CPFC.

Tomiyasu is experienced but injury prone - how reliable he will be comes into question.

The one player with a track record gets sent off barely 30 minutes into his debut. Making a challenge that a rookie could maybe be forgiven for. You couldn't make it up.

We won't have a settled back four for weeks now as you point out.

I think the club has sold Sage a pup in that respect. Making an already tough job even tougher.

Sage calling individuals out is high risk and rarely ends well for the manager.

Gonna be a bumpy ride this season

I hope none of this transpires. Far too early to sack Sage especially given the huge change in the playing squad over the summer and inherited issues (Sarr & JP). I trust SP to do whats right for the club. Various other clubs are having to deal with big changes over the summer (losing good managers and top players) eg Fulham, Newcastle and Villa. Even those clubs who have spent massively arent exactly firing either, especially Spurs. The only clubs doing well are Arsenal, Man City, Hull and Leeds.

Need for cool heads and patience. Remember the clamouring by the fans for the club to increase the depth of the squad to cope with the extra games in Europe. That has been answered. The players are still settling in, it will take more than 4 games for Sage to find his best starting 11. Timber and Khalaili have shown good promise so far and getting Chilwell back was a wise move. We are scoring more goals which is a positive over last season. I am hoping to see Doucoure's battling qualities in midfield. Sean Dyche is a pragmatist type manager in the mold of Roy Hodgson. Is that the type of manager we want? If Sage doesnt last, I would much prefer a more progressive style manager such as Eddie Howe.

As for Leeds this weekend, we lost there 4-1 last December with a back five of Mitchell, Clyne, Guehi, Lacroix and Richards so with our new defence and missing Disasi am expecting we will lose. A point would be a great result.

I was also there, very scary as was the Sunderland game. Our train broke down and we didn’t get there until half time and we ended up in the Sunderland home end. I remember my friend and I smiling at each other when we (Whittle) scored as cheering would have been the end of us 🙂 Then we had that walk back to the station which was more scary than Leeds but both were bad. The good old 70’s which is my age now ;-)

This game could be very damaging to our goal difference,with many predicting a heavy defeat at an inform Leeds.

I also went to Sunderland and was on the train that broke down. I and others ran from the station to the ground and got there well into the first half. I traveled on my own and came out amidst hundreds of Sunderland supporters. I hid my colours (wimp I know) and tried to look inconspicuous.

I asked a local PC for directions back to the station and he told me. After about 10 minutes it became apparent that he had directed me to Sunderland mainline station rather than the local one (can't remember the name) where the Palace train was departing from. I made my way back towards the ground and then towards the right station. When I got there, there was a mass of Sunderland supporters on one side of the road trying to get at the Palace supporters on the other side outside the station, with police in the middle.

I made a crazy dash across the road and was madly cheered by the Sunderland mob who must have thought I was launching a lone wolf attack on the Palace side. The Palace side also thought I was in attack mode and ran towards me to knock 7 bells out of me and the Police also ran my way, probably to arrest me. Fortunately, screaming "No No, I'm Palace, I'm Palace" in my best southern accent convinced them all that I was legit.

Away days were a bit different in the 70's.

Sorry for the nostalgia, back on topic, I predict a 2-2 draw at Leeds this time.

2024–25 = most recent significant winless start (8 games).
2017–18 = most recent truly disastrous start (7 straight defeats, 0 goals).
SP didnt sack OG during that winless start in 24/25, and I'm sure everyone is pleased he didnt!

And we have already won one game and are scoring goals.

All is well that ends well.

Leeds have a similar setup to us with 3 at the back and 2 attacking wingbacks. They have been playing 2 central midfield players and 10s either side of Calvert-Lewin but against Sandcastle they played with 3 central midfielders and 2 up front. Assuming they play the same against us I’d like to see Hughes or Ducoure or even Lerma alongside Wharton and Timber with Kamada and Strand-Larsen up front. Match them man for man and we can beat them. 1-3

My first ever away games were the Chelsea game and the semi final in that cup run
The violence at the Chelsea game scared the crap out of the eleven year old me!!
 
Every time we play a team with DCL in their lineup, I shudder. We've never been able to cope with him since his Everton days. The key will be cutting off the supply to him, as I don't see any of our available centre-backs coping with him. I do think we'll get chances at the other end, so it may come down to whether we can outscore them.

I don't think we will. 3-2 to Leeds.
