Ismaïla Sarr

It’s an absolute farce, makes you want to throw up what some of these highly paid players get away with.

Shame they can’t stop his wages for breach of contract and let him rot, injured my arse
Agree. The club is equally reprehensible in allowing him time to 'process his disappointment'. I might try that line next time I can't be fagged to go in to work.

I look at the possible replacements for him and based on current performances (and I accept this may change as players settle in), I would say:

1) Gozo - no
2) McNeil - no
3) Nketiah- no
4) Osorio - no
5) Pino changing wings - possibly

Which means that as much as I’d like him to rot in the stiffs, we probably need him.
We dont need him or Mateta, the bad vibes they bring to the dressing room vastly outways any quality they have, sell them if any window is open, or keep them away from the first team, they stink the place out.

Thats a lot of assumptions for something we don’t really know the full story on.

I’m sure if there are issues Sage won’t pick them, but as with Glasner’s antics last season and Parish insisting he fulfill his contract, I’m sure someone will remind both Mateta and Sarr that zero football and bad attitude scares buyers off pretty damn quick.

What’s the point of having Sarr when he disappears for a very important few weeks of our season during AFCON? This should be an important consideration when we replace him.

AFCON 2027 will be held in June/July.

After 2028 it will switch to a quadrennial tournament.

I expect he'll be long gone before the next one anyway!

It could be as simple as Sarr is physically injured. It would explain Liverpool's tepid attempt to sign him and his absence from the team for a few weeks. Yes he probably thought he was fit enough to pass a medical and that he had therefore been shafted by the club. Hence the social media post removal.

But these are two separate issues.

Sage, says he didn’t come in for training on Monday, we will see if he comes in next Monday.
Could Be a language problem, but surely his condition is known day by day. Not week by week. If Sarr is playing about , it’s a shame all round because the way Sage sets up Sarr, could be prolific. Hope someone talks some sense to him, what’s happened is in the past, his best interests surely are to play, its a big problem if he doesn’t put this behind him as January, is the first chance to get him out, and then only if interested clubs don’t try to pull our trousers down because of the known situation.

It could be, but as I said, we just don’t know and there is radio silence from the club which is probably sensible.

Paraphrasing a bit

In the press conference Sage says Sarr has a groin strain. He expects him back in training on Monday

When pushed on Sarr's mental state he implied Sarr looks much happier ('his face is more open') and that we have to look after the players

Better to have a player good for 50 games than bad for 60 games

Are face and wallet the same word in French?

I take a slightly more pessimistic view of the situation. Sarr has not been a meaningful part of the squad all season (World Cup plays a part) and my sense is he hasn’t been visible at the training ground, team meetings or home games for any support of his fellow players.

Slight groin strain would require some light rehabilitation and monitoring by the medical team so his absence would be appear to be against the clubs wishes.

Maybe his mum provided the club with a sick note for the week? Ever since Glasner decided he wanted out the harmony and “feel good” factor has diminished bar one historic day in Leipzig.

Maybe I’m totally off base but that’s how it feels to me!

You could indeed draw a conclusion that something has been going on. The stories of this player and that player unhappy for us almost overshadowed pieces on Bruno Fernandez for a week. Plus that Fofana situation. Sarr replacement - looked like it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sarr had been told that if we got the guy, he could leave. So it would still be relatively recent for Sarr as it was quite literally down to the wire.
Just speculation but I seem to remember there being a similar Guehi situation. I presume we're not the only club to do it however.

Will Sarr return to training on Monday? He was due back this Monday just gone. We need him on the pitch doing what he does best - scoring and making assists for Palace.
Does anyone live near the training ground who can check on Monday and report back?
Otherwise I'm sure Southampton would lend a hand and send someone.
