Crystal Palace vs. Middlesbrough match thread

Our reserve team against Middlesbrough’s and tbh they were better than us apart from the finishing. I thought that our back three were really good but there was wave after wave of attacks to defend. We seem very porous. It’s as if Sage wants us to play total football like the famous Dutch side but we don’t have the great midfielders they had.

Think past two games shows we not solid enough and although work in progress think we could lose a few games heavily if we don't tighten up soon.We won't be drawing many games that's for sure.

Trust the people who went. 3-0 home win, the journos just sort the report into the 'easy home win category'.

Broadly they overrun us in the midfield. And we struggled to play out from the back, often making multiple mistakes one after each other. We scored slightly against the run of play

But yes definitely some positives.

JSL held the ball up better. And its crystal clear that if we stick crosses in he'll score. Lets hope we continue to do this.

Mingueza isn't buccaneering, but is v solid.

I think all the Kamada haters have been silenced. That might be one of the best finishes I've seen.
You are on my list of HOLers to trust 🤣

It was basically Middlesborough's reserve team, only 3 of them played at the weekend in the League. They looked sharp and keen to impress, lacked the final ball, but they ran rings around us in midfield. Without Disasi in the centre of defence, we would of struggled.
We did struggle for long periods

Glad to hear it
Given the number of first teamers / starters who didn’t feature or only played the last twenty minutes yesterday’s result shows how much our squad has improved this season from last. Yes Boro has the lions share of possession but lacked the quality to make their possession count. A 3-0 victory flattered us but is a great step forward and shall engender confidence for all players who didn’t feature yesterday

We played worse teams than Boro in last seasons Conference League and struggled. So I’m taking last night’s win as a big plus

Not sure Sage knows who our reserve team is yet.

Ahanor playing helped Diassi, as he’s got speed to cover. I would seriously consider starting him on Saturday, yes he’s 18 but he’s very mature and comfortable. Canvot is still raw but Ahanor seems very mature and him being left footed balances our defence .
Tomi is such a good player with ball at his feet and intelligent, I feel Richard’s needs to take a leaf out his book at reading situations and knowing when to press.
Pino tonight was good in flashes but he isn’t clinical and lost possesssion often, last season his best spell was when he was dropped for Guessand and then he came back in to the team.
Timber gets himself busy and considering he only signed last week and has started twice already, says that sage rates him as a player and wants him settling in our starting 11.

Positive post save your first praise is for a player we are blooding for Chelsea.

Ah well, let's enjoy him while we have him.

Henderson
Khalaili
Tomiyasu
Disasi
Ahanor
Mitchell
Wharton
Timber
Kamada
Pino
Larsson
Nketiah

For Saturday, would be my team.

And I don’t care if two of these are loan players. We need to survive and have good cup runs and build on our successes last year.

Another 12 man team. I'm guessing you couldn't decide between Larsson and Nketiah

nice work. Hopefully the ref wont notice that we've got an extra player 🙂

I read that Nketiah is due back in training today or tomorrow in which case it's likely that he will be in Saturday's squad.
The position is unclear on Sarr who apparently training alone as he 'recovers ' from his inhury.
I don't exoect to see him on Saturday.

Ahanor did okay but I thought he was lucky in not giving a penalty away in the first half leaping into a challenge. The Boro guy had his arms up pleading for a foul. If VAR was present I think it would have been given. No doubt Ahanor looks like he will be a top player. Hopefully Chelsea will give us a loan of him for a second season with us? Would still keep Richard’s and Canvot in our middle 3 for Saturday. Still early days for Ahanor but good for the bench if needed
