Predictions and team for Middlesbrough

I hope Sage picks exactly the team he has in mind for our next few league games and our early European games. There is no need whatsoever to rotate the squad in September, and every need to bed down a coherent team. We have a lot of players who are new to the manger, his staff, their system of play, the club, the league, and the country. The sooner they are up to speed and Sage has got his ideas into them, the better. He has had all but no time to work with the players in the summer as half of them weren't even here, so we should use this game for that purpose.

We can f*** about with swapping this player for that one to keep legs fresh later, when there is a functioning unit for the squad players to step into.
Isn’t the whole point about squad rotation that you rotate the squad to keep players fresh and avoid fatigue? That means you rotate in September so your best eleven isn’t burnt out by November as happened last season. You don’t wait until they are burnt out and then bring in slightly worse players.

Its not just the games that get them up to speed, they are going to be working on this all week.

Personally Richards has been awful all season, I'd rather he tries Tomiyasu in there see if he makes less individual errors

This is a good point.

This time last season everyone knew exactly what the best 11 was.

Right now, I don't think that's at all certain.

The players picked so far this season haven't all delivered. Guessand and McNeil dropped because of it. Canvot and Richards guilty of mistakes within the new approach. Timber not immediately linking up well with Wharton.

All totally understandable with a new manager, new approach and new players (and Sarr and Mateta missing). It could take some time.

Maybe those players mentioned will improve within the system. But maybe some of the other players we've just invested in will be better within Sage's approach and deserve to be first 11? If they don't get the opportunity we won't know. And if they don't get some game time how can they be ready when the first 11 get injuries or suspensions?

Hopefully tonight will give some more clues. Tough game but also something of a free hit.

Yep, I agree that is the point of rotation (and the benefit), but I feel it has to be weighed against the greater benefits of establishing a settled way of playing and an understanding between the key players. If you already have the latter then all well and good, but we don't at the moment.

We have so many problems at the back and upfront at the moment I can only see tonight being a difficult game. Whatever team we put out it will be a good test as to where we are?, my heart says we should have comfortable win but my head says otherwise!

I fear this game.

Boro are on a real high at the moment and at long last they have the striker they needed last season in Lankshear. I think we are going to come crashing back down to reality after the Fulham match, 2-0 to Boro

It would be far better for Palace to bomb out of all the cup competitions and concentrate on staying in the Prem.
We cannot possibly win another cup as our present trophy cabinet is at full capacity. Palace don't want to waste resources scouting for the right bigger cabinet, and then spending more than we bargained for. Potentially high delivery charges too.
I believe we have applied for planning permission to add 40% more capacity with hopes of completing the project by 2031

I think whatever side we put out tonight, we will have a game on our hands. I never like losing, but given that we have another European campaign coming up, to say nothing of our PL fixtures, I wouldn't be too devastated if we went out of the LC. Yes, we have deeper squad this year, but I still think we could have problems battling on three fronts at the same time.

My Middlesbrough mate who's going tonight thinks they will have a number of changes and also hopes they don't get thrashed so there thinking the same as us , well not me 😇

dear Mr Sage. Play the kids and lets see what happens. If they come good, they will compete for a place in our first team. If we win tonight, good. If we lose, i dont really care. But protect our top players for the Prem & Europe

I’m going, so I care. Play a strong 11 and make a few changes. Players need to get used to how Sage wants them to play and this is a chance to do that. I also want another trophy 🙂

I'd go with the strongest team and give them a competitive game to gel. Ideally something we would have wanted to do in pre-season, but here's a chance for them to practice playing together.

At the minute we are not good enough not to play close to our best team against an opponent like Middlesborough.

Apart from a handful of changes (eg goalkeeper, front three) I would expect a strong line up as we seek to build understanding with and without the ball.

One change will be Mitchell I presume. He seemed to have a slight knock. Although I'm surprised Mitchell the Terminator, can get a knock playing against mere humans.

I'd like to see the same back 3 from saturday as there is still a lot of hard work to be done together there!!

Like to see chilwell and guessand start and sarr on the bench just so he can sulk for 90 minutes!!
