Who feels let down again

Sure he is young but he has more appearances than Canvot did when he joined us and also is an Italian international at 18. Chelsea are not going to spend £40m on a player who is not good and people in Italy rate him really highly. After Riads injury an extra CB will be very useful for the squad and this seems like a good option for 1 year. At the end of the day we need extra players this year to compete in europe and were in a tough financial spot having spent a lot in january so getting in an extra loan seems like a no brainer to me.

Yeah but canvot is our player, so development and experience will benefit the club by increasing his value. He might be well rated but is still untested at this level, Chelsea benefit from it far more than we do.

Although it does show Chelsea trust us to use their players. Not ideal but potential PL survival with loan players. Surely that’s our aim alongside a run in a cup or two.

We needed an extra player for this season after Riad got injured and after seeing how the extra fixtures killed us last season. We have limited money due to high spending in January. A loan makes a lot of sense here and he is probably about as good a loan as we could hope to get especially late in the window. We still have 4 starting CBs without him which is the same as we had in the last 2 seasons, so he brings extra cover for this year. Personally I think it's a sensible bit of business to help the team out in the year we need extra players.

Let's be honest we are not going to be competing with Chelsea anytime soon and the difference between us and them for the next few years is not going to be this one CB so who cares if it also helps them out more than us, it still helps us out. It would be different if we were helping out a Fulham or a Bournemouth etc who we are actually competing with.

We do tend to turn their players into better players for them, Gallagher went back there and won their player of the year, Chalobah was down the pecking order, but they couldn’t wait to call him back after half a good season with us. We turned Guehi from an unknown reserve into an England regular

Unfortunately that is a down side to success as a club.

Historically we have relied a lot on our academy, and it's one of the most productive in the country.

But even under Oli we were only using them when he wanted to make a point to the board, the rest of the time they were firmly shut out and that was with a much smaller squad than this one. Part of that is the fact we are operating on a higher level than before.

We are going to see somewhat less first team opportunity for our graduates for a while, that's a fact of life, but there is a good reason for it. Hopefully those who can't break through here will be allowed to find a place they do... and any elite few who demand it on ability will still be recognised by our staff and allowed to break through.
The academy is required by Premier rules, if we can produce a few gems all the better. It is becoming self funding with Imray and Ozoh transfers have brought in £10m in this window.
Getting anyone into the first team is a tough ask, if you look at this transfer window, nobody cost a fortune and all have first team experience in Europe.

More or less every player thats in the prem have played for a youth team , sadly not in teams in the UK , goes to show how hard it is for youngsters to take that last step at Premier clubs let alone lower lge 😢

I think our window was rescued by the two late signings.

Fofana looks like a quality player so I can see why we fought for him, but I just wonder if we could have done a little more. His agent was obviously playing one side against the other and we allowed that situation by going in late. As the club hijacking, we needed to blow Sunderland out of the water by offering the player a big incentive. What ever we offered was clearly not big enough.

The players we did bring in all look decent in their highlight reels so hopefully they can do it in the Prem.

Sarr and Mateta will have to get over it and win the fans over again with some goals.

I read somewhere that in the end our offer was greater than sunderlands but we wanted a full medical over concerns over his ankle.

Obviously alot "information" is being thrown out and I don't know what to truly to believe.

On the flip that means we turn our own into better players with the help of other teams players being loaned to us 👌

There is always some spin to present a certain narrative. Hopefully we won't regret losing out to a rival.
