Who feels let down again

Right, are the creator of this thread and 50% of it's contributors eating a good portion of humble pie yet?

There is much to be excited about. We've made 11 first team signings and sold 3 proper first team players. No massive fees, but quietly good business that doesn't put us in a bad financial position, and gets us ready for a long season in four competitions.

Many of the new signings have European experience and league titles to their names.

The squad looks a lot stronger, even without two of our best from the past seasons in Lacroix and Muñoz.

We have way more depth now, which will be crucial this season, and together Khalili and Mingueza more than make up for Muñoz's contribution, with a longer future ahead of both as well, and likely to be fresher.

Tomiyasu if fit is one of the best in the league, Disasi wasn't as good as Lacroix last season but he is still a top quality CB, again between the two of them we have plugged the hole well and added some great attributes to the overall squad, as well as experience from both of elite level football.

We've added a more than a few new attacking threats in McNeil, Gozo, Osorio, and possibly Timber, which should improve our output. The Timber signing will prove to be important as we needed another ready-made midfielder, it's the position we've all been screaming out for. We rarely get our goals from midfield and one hope for Timber will be to address that himself, as well as helping the rest of the midfield to address it.

We will see how everyone gets on when they play, some of the 11 incomings are more or less unknown quantities, but that's where we do best.

I've never, never, never seen even close to as much addition to a Palace squad without the same level of outgoings, it's definitely a unique window for the club, and I would say it has left us in a much stronger state across all positions.

10/10, best window we've ever had.

Not me !!

One wonders how much impact having Hobbs in has helped .

We were linked to multiple players and when someone fell over there were further names we were rapidly linked with other alternatives.

Will things end up working perfectly ?

Who knows , it’s football and can be unpredictable … but I’m more optimistic after this window than I have been for a while
 
We’ve managed to keep Henderson, Wharton, Sarr and even Mateta and probably have too many players the bench will have to a double decker. No complaints from me.

Good post. Not sure I'd say 10/10 but that might be because, as usual, I don't know much about the players we have signed. And no one knows how well they will do for Palace.

But it looks like we have a squad to compete in Europe and the PL this year. There will be genuine competition to get on the bench.

Looking forward to the Middlesbrough game when we might get to see almost a whole new team. I guess that might be the pre-season for the newcomers.

Now it's over to our most important signing of the summer. Pierre Sage.

How good is he?

And after saying the team was not ready after Freiburg how quickly can he get his team to gel and get some points on the board? We can't wait 3 months for everyone to integrate.

To be fair I agree with you ,still would of not done any business with Forest I suppose money talks ,hopefully the unrest among some of the want away players calms done and the results start to come our way

Speaking of Forest, they were pretty quiet this window. I wonder what Glasner makes of their failure to get a replacement in for Anderson. A few more bad results and we should find out!

Possibly. Time will tell. Could be a blinder when the team settles. Could be a Holloway. Eleven is a lot of new blood to blood.

There are no players who make me think - he is the one. Not yet anyway. Perhaps Timber?

Osorio is the one who makes this a 9/10. I can't help feeling 2nd best consolation prize for not getting Fofana. Now he could have raised the excitement level. I would dearly love to be wrong.

As many have said, much improved squad, but it will take a lot of bedding in and gelling before the first XI is better than last year.

One negative. Securing 11 new players does not suggest a conveyer belt from the academy.

PS Wharton and Sarr still on the books. Hoping Sarr's heart remains in the fight.
 
I can't remember bringing in so many players in the summer window since 2013 when Holloway brought in 15 players in a massive splurge. Anyone remember Florian Merange, Eliot Grandin, Jimmy Kebe, Jerome Thomas and the unfortunate Jack Hunt. Let's hope some of the new crop are able to make more of an impression than these.
 
I’ve never felt let down. The club doesn’t owe me anything and we have people at the club all committed to doing the best to make us successful. I’d only feel let down if we had a Reading owner type situation.

I do feel we’ve not really addressed our key needs in the window and have a first eleven that looks weaker than last year. I also feel we’ve now got an imbalanced squad. I am also a bit frustrated we have yet again entered a league season miles behind other clubs in terms of readiness. That’s completely different to being let down though

Unfortunately that is a down side to success as a club.

Historically we have relied a lot on our academy, and it's one of the most productive in the country.

But even under Oli we were only using them when he wanted to make a point to the board, the rest of the time they were firmly shut out and that was with a much smaller squad than this one. Part of that is the fact we are operating on a higher level than before.

We are going to see somewhat less first team opportunity for our graduates for a while, that's a fact of life, but there is a good reason for it. Hopefully those who can't break through here will be allowed to find a place they do... and any elite few who demand it on ability will still be recognised by our staff and allowed to break through.

Merange rings a bell, but the only one of that list that I do remember playing is Thomas.

Yes, not much to write home about in the Holloway summer window. Can say with good authority the only thing the two respective windows in question will have in common is vastness.

The players we’ve bought in this window are totally different gravy to the rubbish Holloway bought in. The vast majority of them are full internationals !!!!

Sosa has been fine, not amazing but fine.

Obviously Johnson had an awful time here but he's already doing a lot better since he left... just a bad fit, it happens.

In general, being a full international would suggest a certain level of quality.
