Estate agents make money when people sell houses, football agents make money when people sell footballs.

Oh no wait, sorry that was a load of tripe, as are football agents.
They actually make money when football players are sold.

And I think agents absolutely LOVE Palace. Mainly because they know they can easily get you sold to Palace, which then puts you in a Crystal glazed shop window, to just sell you all over again.

For them it’s a win win, for us it’s heartache.

Yet we blame the club hierarchy and/or the player, for lack of ambition or faithfulness, while those sneaky agents get none of the blame.

Lets be honest, they are completely uneccesary. Just another drain/inflation on the ridiculous football costs. They need players to move to make a wage. And transfer deadline day gives them, an elevated platform to pitch their “goods”.

Richarlison’s latest post shows that even the players themselves get screwed over by these absolute muppets.

So why do they even exist?

They are, the politicians of football!
The world would be a better place without them.

Fcuk, the HF should do a banner… if a f@t greek b@st@rd hadn’t gagged them.

Let’s face it, high end football, which is currently where we are (yay!) is ALL about the money.
Unfortunately the actual football bit comes somewhere after that.
 
FIFA tried to regulate agents a few years ago, mainly to weed out the crooks. It didn't work as players just signed up with a legitimate agent but relied on an unregulated advisor. As the advisor was not an agent FIFA could not stop it.

Players are as much at fault as the agents. If players stopped using their relatives or some dodgy agent there wouldn't be half the problems.

Jordan tried and failed to push agents out at Palace all that happened was we couldn't sign players.

With all the money sloshing around in the game they are a necessary evil. Good agents help guide the careers of players and advise them to invest their money in sensible schemes. Unfortunately there will always be bad agents and greedy players ready to listen to the siren song.

I saw a programme about one "good" agent he had a young kid (18yo?) on his books who just got his first pro contract and wanted to buy a top of the range sports car. The agent vetoed it as he felt the kid was too young and going to make mistakes. That sounds like an agent who cares about his clients he was more a father figure to this kid.

Shame players don't pay the fees our their representatives and not a club cost, even a bit.

Sadly the majority of young footballers (and their parents) lack the experience and negotiating skills required to secure the best possible contract. In the olden days many clubs ripped players off because of this. This is why Agents came into play to start with. Sadly as with all things that are heavily influenced by money Agents have now not only made themselves indispensible but They are now very much part of the problem. But I cannot see another way of running this section of the game if I am honest
 
Why does every single agent I have seen interviewed or indeed met (only a couple to be fair) come across like a character from Phone Jacker…. Good evening Mr chairmaaannn. I would like your mothers surname and bank account details.

You are sadly right.

All the time there is a transfer system, there will be a demand for middlemen/women (interesting thought: I wonder how many female agents there are?).

I do not know enough about the football landscape with agents, but I see some similarities with the recruitment and estate agency markets. These middleman/women have "customers" at each end of the supply chain. So with recruitment for example the employer pays the recruiters invoice, when employees/execs/contractors get placed. But the same recuiter deals with the employer and the employees/execs/contractors.

Is it the same in football, or do agents get paid by the player with other agents representing the club and getting paid by the club? If it is like recruitment then I should imagine it is, to quote Obi Wan Kenobi, a hive of scum and villainy.
 
I'd hire a good sports lawyer to conduct any financial matters with the clubs and have nothing whatsoever to do with agents, entourage's or anything else these pratt footballers seem to need wrapped around their hardly earned pound notes.

If you want to be a real hard nut you get a Private Investigator to dig the dirt first. But you're playing with fire with some of these guys. You can imagine the types.

Apparently many of them used to be Nigerian Princes who needed a temporary loan

I think it was that arvicoline legal commentator Stefan Borson who casually mentioned in an interview that a £35m transfer for a player typically means £40m to get them in the building. Even if only half of the excess £5m was agent fees this would translate to over 7% of the headline transfer fee.

Nice work if you can get it.
