Honest Ahanor

This might not be as done a deal as the media are making out. Some rumours going round now about us being interested in David Affengruber from Elche. You'd have to think that happening would kill this loan deal.

Word is he's turned down Southampton - who will be trying to replace Harwood-Bellis - due to our interest.

25, plays central in a back three. Breakout season in La Liga last year as Elche stayed up at the first attempt. Lots of defensive actions, especially interceptions. Entering last year of his contract. Not the most glamorous signing on paper but a round peg in a round hole we need filling.

Bit more on him here Man Utd eye Elche’s interception king: Who is David Affengruber, the Austrian centre-back rising in La Liga?

My issue with this transfer wouldn’t be the loan nature of it. It would be because it doesn’t address the need we have. What we need is leadership and an organiser in defence. Somebody who will take ownership in games for stopping the opposition. We do not need a raw prospect. We have one of those in Canvot. We need an experienced campaigner. Akin to the role Cahill performed.

Agreed, although perhaps that is Disasi.

So himself & Gozo will be playing all the while Sarr & JP sit on the bench getting 3 times more & they hate the club !

Makes my blood boil seeing them in a Palace kit

I am aware we should get rid of JP (if not sold for 15m+, happy to see him rot in the reserves and burn the 15m), how do we know Sarr wants to leave? It appears to be rumours adding 2+2=5. The agents will be the one stirring things up to try and get him to Liverpool at the peak of his value/talent. Lots of dark arts going on in the background.

He deleted all palace content on his Instagram. Just leaving the Senegal image. That and an apparent groin strain. I am convinced the guy wants out

All this talk of being a '' feeder club ''.....I regret to inform you that we are one of around a dozen in the Premier League....
Back in the Ferguson era every one of the bottom-half and mid-table clubs were tripping over each other to sign a Man Utd fringe player on loan.

Nowadays more often than not it's a Chelsea fringe player. If not Chelsea, then it's Arsenal or Man City.

Some do well, some don't, but nothing wrong with it per se, and we are not the only club that looks for these kind of signings.

Regardless we must be really desperate if we are doing these sort of deals ,where does it leave us in 12 months when the loans and sort term contracts have passed ?

It leaves us with a back three of Canvot, Richards and a limping Riad , thats where it leaves us
We also have Tomiyasu, and the Disasi deal includes a written in optional fee at that point.

So essentially in 12 months time we are left with five players competing for three spots, or two spots if we ever change shape in future.

We also have Lerma among others who are capable in that position.

Lerma was apparently dying to leave, like Benitez and Mateta. He won't be here next year. I wouldn't rely on him too much this year.
I say Benitez and Mateta because these are the ones where we exercised our option for an extra year.
None of them seemed happy about it. Probably wanted a free and a huge wage.

All three of those players are still with us, with 10 and a half hours to go. If a deal isn't done, they will have to get their heads down, for their own sakes.

I don't think there is much discontent in Jeff's camp, nor Walter's for that matter. The JPM stink is well known and a separate issue.

If Lerma leaves, at that point we have to deal with it and replace him. As things stand, he is a Palace player. Has anyone shown interest to sign him?

He is backup in midfield, and deep backup in terms of centre-backs where there are 6 players ahead of him now (about to be 7) and will be at least 5 ahead in that position in 12 months.
