Agree, A footballer's career is a short one. Big opportunities dont come along too often. Winning the FA Cup and ECL were always going to attract the vultures. In perspective we have sold Max (who was rumoured to have made it clear he wanted to leave even while still in the USA with the French team-what are the club supposed to do?) and probably Munoz who it 100% past his best and has already been replaced.
We've expanded the squad and have still a couple more to bring in. Yes there is interest in Sarr and JPM but I dont believe Sarr will be allowed to leave and losing JPM would not be that big a loss if Strand-Larson finds some form. Something he may well do now he is going to get a run of games.
I dont see what there is to be negative about at this stage. Unless people are so unrealistic they think we should be beating Everton away and City at home?
I'm not so convinced that after our success of the last couple of years it is correct to say that Parish decided to cash in. The break up of the team was/is inevitable once the weathly clubs (note here the "wealthy" and not "better") decide to start the process of unsettling the more prominent players. This is of course aided by agents and the media writing crap like "xyz needs to leave Palace to further his career", which as have witnessed at other clubs as well, usually results is said player either laying down tools or generally disrupting the squad. The only logical thing to do then is to sell hopefully for a decent fee. Where I think most of our concern lies is that before actually pressing the button there should be replacement lined up so that the in & out are informally linked. This type of situation would provide evidence that there was actually a plan in place. Now, i suppose one could argue that is what SP has done re Munoz as it was pretty obvious Munoz wanted away. Re Lacriox, there were certainly no lack of links re a CB but it all took so long, at least for us as fans. Unless of course SP had it all fixed with Desasi a week earlier ;-). Riad's injury has thrown a spanner in the works; for once it appeared a decisive move had been made then a failed medical. Now we suffer the agonies of Clickbait trawling every CB in Europe that might be able to kick a ball. Actually having a CB that head a ball might be a good idea for once.
So, as I wrote yesterday I don't feel let down but I will be beyond angry if, or I believe when Sarr forces his move there is no replacement, even allowing for the fact that any such signing would be a risk just like Sarr. remember? 2 goals in his first season and he is hardly prolific today. I will also be hugely disappointed if we can't land some midfield support. This though, would assume a change in formation because I can't see anybody coming as a squad player behind Messrs Wharton & Kamada.

Could we not have thought that winning stuff and qualifying for Europe would attract players? Players leaving for non champions League clubs are doing it for signing on fees. And wages.

Just look at villa. Half their squad is gone. Rogers and martinez are gone to Chelsea a non champions league club. And who in their right minds goes to spurs? Unless it's extraordinary wages.

It's funny how desperation to play in the Champions League goes out the window when a pile of money is offered.
You know what, in all of his interviews and from we see on videos JSL seems like a really likeable guy and i really hope that he will find some form. There are, however, at least reasons why i doubt it, namely 1) he shows no sign of doing so and 2) the set-up of theam means that headable crosses are fairly unlikely while we rely upon Wingbacks. As for Everton and expectations I have been expecting a win there for a decade and always disappointed. Maybe "expecting" is too much but i think we should be at the races at least.
I too think that JSL is a top man, he comes across as a genuinely good guy who could lift anyones spirits. But unfortunately he's not been brought in for his personality or ability to bring good vibes he was brought in to be a striker and score goals. I really do hope it works out and he can start banging them in because having a decent person be a decent player for us is all we can ask for.

My one concern is that the squad looks "bitty". It's something I've recognising before when a new manager takes over and has to knock what he has before him into a team pulling in the same direction. Roy Hodgson and Tony Pulis did this well, even though it wasn't always entertaining, but in their cases they had some players who could be relied upon completely, Ward, Jedinak, Dann, McArthur, Delaney etc etc, all robust characters. This time round I don't see it - as I mentioned in another post there's no spine, and as ASCPFC said we don't have a team. I agree, it's a loose collection of players, some of whom have been here before, sure, but real shape and leadership? No.

We were the better team first half and if Mateta didn't need 20 chances to score 1 goal it would have been a different result.

We were at the races first 30 minutes against Everton and then haven’t been at the races in the next 150 minutes of football where our aggregate performance is 1-6. As soon as Everton and Man City stepped it up a little bit we couldn’t compete.
It’s only 6 because Phil Foden turned into Shefki Kuqi in front of goal. It easily could have been 8 or 9.

Therein lies the problem. We shouldn't need to be 'settling down'. If we stopped chopping and changing players we would be far more settled. Its a problem of football at large, not just Palace.
