Hugo Larsson

The trouble is who will he replace in midfield? Wharton 100% no. Kamada, maybe but that would be more of a "like for like". Surely, we need a box to box enforcer to play alongside Wharton? Original Doucore could be the one but who knows if/when he will get back to that. That leaves Hughes and Lerma who I see as mainly being subs to be brought on to shore up a game.

Going to 4,4,2 or 4,5,1 should allow for another creative midfielder. However, that would be a major move away from our trophy winning formula. Though, with our current squad, I think it is certainly something that we should be looking at. I think either set up might also settle and help firm up our back line.

I think our 2 full backs would be fine in a back four now that Khalaili is replacing Munoz but worry about who our 2 centre backs would be. Richards is good on the right of a three but as yesterday showed he’s no good in the middle. Maybe Disasi with Canvot?

Tomiyasu with Disasi. Put Canvot in midfield to drive forward. He likes dribbling forward and would complement either Kamada or Wharton by actually having a physical presence. Whereas Wharton and Kamada have the physical presence of a poltergeist.

I also would like to see a back four, but share the concerns about the central defenders available from our current options. It's a real step down from Guehi and Lacroix.
Mitchell and Khalaili would be good in a back 4 with the added bonus that the latter could still break forward.

Wharton and Kamada are both good, but I think they could do even more with a third player in there to bolster the midfield, preferably an athletic, powerful player who can get around the field as well as protect the back 4.

I don't see why Sage should be wedded to Glasner's system just because we had some success with it.
Time for a rethink based on the squad that is available after the transfer window.

That poltergeist was very good at ghosting in behind the defence though.

If we play a back four I think it need to be Disasi and Tomiysasu as the centre halves. They are the two most accomplished in the squad. Canvot is still developing and learning and Richards has regressed in the last 12 months. We forget he wasn’t first choice two seasons ago.

Yeah I'm really doubting his ability.

He couldn't get a game with Chalobah around last season either. Didn't even jump for Haaland's header yesterday

Not in the Frankfurt squad yesterday. Transfer Market says he has a 'muscular injury'. I wonder if a Sarr type of muscle injury...or whether it's an actual injury - which would mean we're highly likely to get him in for a medical only to conclude he's torn his hamstring, ACL and Achilles.

I disagree, Richard’s hasn’t regressed. The only problem is that he is being used in the middle of the back 3. And we are therefore missing a settled back 3 because of selling Lacroix and not playing Munoz, Matetta and Sarr for various reasons. We are weak without these first teamers and have only brought in players to strengthen our squad. We require additional players to start a match and equal (or better) than those that have either left or not playing at the moment. Nothing wrong with a middle 3 / wingbacks but we don’t have a good enough starting 11 compared to the last couple of seasons. Let’s hope before the window closes we bring in new bodies to start in our first 11. And we keep Sarr unless we get as good as him in a replacement?

The ball went clear over his head to haaland who had found a yard of space. He did exact same against us last year. I think Richards knows he’s not getting it even if he jumps.

Plus Canvot knows how to shoot.

That’s not how I saw it. We were defending zonally for that move, the ball comes into Richards’ zone and he makes no effort or attempt to play the ball. He almost winces as it comes past him. If he makes any attempt to get to the ball, chances are he does enough to put Haaland off.

We are so defensively poor when dealing with aerial corners and free kicks into our box.

100%, zonally or not Richards is touch tight to Haarland when he heads it. He's a big lad, if he challenges for the ball there is a chance he puts him off. vs standing stuck to the floor giving Haaland a free header 8 yards out

H e was apparantly already in London so why would he need to fly to Biggin Hill anyway. Seems all of our possible midfield "targets" are busy heading to other destinations.
