Mateta Contract

Mateta is an absolute cnut, when he deleted all his Palace social media, before completing his transfer says all you need to know, out him ASAP.

Lets be honest - Mateta needs 10 opportunities to score one. I saw a survey showing he was the second worst finisher in Europe based on chances created.

Sarr can f*** off if he thinks Galatasaray are right for him (maybe he should ask Wilf!)

Sarr was floating around in the French league doing nothing, he was only just good enough for Watford.

Mateta over-rates himself - play for the badge or leave.

Sick of these prima-donnas kissing the badge and then leaving.

Be classy, like Guehi, Eze, and Zaha !
 
I would offer Matets £80k basic for two more seasons after this one, with various bonuses that would take him to £115k if he scores say 15-18 goals plus assists plus league position etc etc.
He is a powerful guy who stirs up defences which can't be ignored. He also appears to be completely crazy whenever I see him in post match interviews.

Err, the goal is 8 foot high and 8 yards long, it needed to go in the back of the net, not those 3 inches.

Firstly we offered him a new contract and it was turned down so clearly the money and/or contract length weren't acceptable to him/his agent. Last Jan Milan must have been offering more.
Secondly as per the Olise/Eze contracts they both renewed on massively improved terms with release clauses. Both have moved to bigger clubs since.
I know Mateta is older, but the principle applies. At a minimum he could add 50% to his salary and have maybe a reducing release clause based on his age e.g. £30m now, £20m next season etc. Look at Welbeck moving to Chelsea at 35. If Mateta was to re-sign i strongly suspect he will still get the opportunity to move on in a year or two

He/his agent clearly feel it will be in his best interests not to renew - this is not dissimilar to Guehi who refused to discuss new terms.

There is a lot of hate towards JP yet Guehi got away with minimal criticism.

I disagree.

Guehi was totally open about the fact he would not sign another Palace deal.

He would have honoured his contract had Palace not wanted to cash in on him.

Mateta is still under contract to Palace but has not been able to agree an extension on different, improved terms. Fair enough. But to then try to argue that the contract is invalid demonstrates two things to me. His agent is not giving him the best advice and the player is showing a lack of respect to the club.

Don't lose sight of the fact that had he passed his medical with Milan, he wouldn't even be here now !

Yes when its empty and no keeper , Well even the great goal scorers miss Haalands was a miss and a half with empty net , also with a goalkeeper when full stretched that cuts it down he'll of alot

I haven't got a clue what is going on. It seems disappointing that we are getting a few of these situations arising with nos satisfactory resolution. We did very well getting shot of the disastrous Johnson fellah, even if we did drop £20m on him. I totally fail to understand our last transfer window activity and the salary we agreed with Larsen. It is so far out of line with all our other players, it makes zero sense. Can anyone explain how such a high salary was agreed with such an average player? £125k/week seems ludicrously high.

I've been saying this for a long time. We fans always want to see the best in our own players but the reality is he is an awful finisher. He has been helped massively to look good in the last couple of years by creative and attacking players laying guilt edged chances on a plate for him. Even a lot of them he failed to put away.
I'd really like to see Strand-Larson score a couple, get his confidence up and I'm betting his finishing stats will quickly become better than Mateta's
 
I think my favorite part of this conversation is the reality is that if he had scored both goals, the conversation on here would be drastically different.
