Lacroix

To be fair, Eze had a release clause which Arsenal met.

And Ebs had his fair share of injuries, including that serious Achilles ...
Wharton has persistent groin and hamstring issues, which are harder to clear up.

Regardless he isn't going to attract offers of £100m, he scored one in 70 appearances for Palace. Lacroix scored 2 in the same amount of games.

Then other clubs dont get him then do they?
Its quite simple to those who can grasp the basics. We dont want to sell, Wharton is not aggitating for a move therefore we set a price we know we'd be stupid to turn down. It doesn't matter whether other clubs will pay £100m or not because we dont want to sell anyway! Jeez

Where’s Dan ashworth? Was great everywhere , except Utd (who’s succeeded there since fergie?)
He was my old PE teacher in Orpington, so must be local.
He is a chief at the FA now. No links to Croydon as far as I can tell. Are you certain it's the same one?

He grew up in Norfolk, went to West Anglia college, played youth football for Norwich, made semi-pro at Eastbourne, and emigrated to the US to play for West Florida Fury. After his minor playing career he went straight into coaching, all for Midlands-based clubs, then became an FA bod, then became director of football with Brighton, then Newcastle, Man Utd, and back to the FA.

He does have a good reputation as a director. Brighton and Newcastle did good business with him at the top. Think Newcastle have missed him.

He would demand a high fee from any club signing him now, having been on the payrolls at Man Utd and Newcastle.

Just in on BBC Football:

"Arsenal have agreed a deal worth more than £50m to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa."

Whatever you may think of Konsa / Lacroix in terms of who is the better player, it seems what we agreed is market rate for a proven international centre back with Premier League and European experience.

I wonder if that rate is not affected by the finances of the selling club? Villa seem to be in a constant frantic dash to sell players every summer to see off FFP/SCR trouble. Perhaps they would have asked for more if they didn't need to sell?

I also think we accepted the bid for Lacroix to fund our own purchases, and so part of the logic in accepting the bid was how early it came in thew window. Perhaps, anyway.

And Van Hecke an est ablished Dutch CB went for the same amount BUT he only had 1 year left on his contract.

Having said that we got a reasonable fee for Lacroix and it seems to have allowed us to do our subsequent business, so no complaints from me.

And Romero went for 34 million. Couple of years older than Lacroix but probably a higher profile and his contract at Spurs still had 3 years to go. I think his and Konsa's fees should put to bed the idea that Parish got his pants pulled down over Max

But they are a better club than us with more success than our club and world cup players , oops was my claws out 🤣🤣 we was 10 to 15m short in my value of Max

Great point and these deals are all multi variable equations with appetite of buying and selling clubs, number of prospective buyers, % selling clauses from previous club, prevailing market rate, time to close of window, sentiment of player, book value of player/years left on deal just some of the variables.

How poisonous the agent(s) involved are maybe being another variable.

I know I’ve said this a couple of times before but, I am convinced that he had a gentleman’s agreement with Parrish. There were probably other clubs in for him at same time as us and it was probably agreed that if he signed for us that we’d let him go to a bigger club if he gives us a couple of seasons. Hence the not so large transfer fee we were expecting.

Conversely WC winner and RU Christian Romero (26) went for £34M so IMO the valuation of LaCroix looks about right.

I think Max's valuation was a bit on the light side, and the amount agreed suggests perhaps a release clause of 60m Euro.

Van Hecke only had 1 year left of his contract.
Konsa will be 29 in 2 months and Romero is 28 (not 26) and despite playing regularly for Argentina has had a mix prem league record and also openly asked to leave.

Max is 26 and had 3 years left of his contract and was not on silly money. All these should have enabled Palace to extract maximum value - unless there was a release clause.
