Positive about 26/27

If Monsters like Newcastle or Aston Villa are now faced with selling major assets to stay within the rules I cant see Wrexham getting anywhere. Thats if they get up anyway. Many clubs in the past have tried to buy their way out of the Championship and realised money alone is not enough. Wolves under Jack Hayward are a prime example. He threw truly ridiculous money (for that era) at promotion only to see the Leicester City's, the Crystal Palace's, the West Bromwich Albion's pass them by
I think Wrexham are a test of the Hollywood model, can a fad team sustain long term success on a model where the majority of their funding actually comes from outside the UK?

The Facts:
  • Total Revenue: £33.35 million (up 25% year-over-year), a record for a third-tier club not receiving parachute payments.
  • Revenue Streams: Driven by £17.3 million in sponsorships, £5.9 million in matchdays, £5 million in retail, and £3.4 million in broadcasting.
  • The "Hollywood Effect": Approximately 57.7% of Wrexham's revenue originates from outside the UK (heavily backed by North America and the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series), placing their commercial revenue higher than select Premier League and lower-tier Championship clubs.
  • Net Result: Despite record earnings, Wrexham posted an operating loss of £14.85 million due to a steep rise in their wage bill (£19.9 million) and promotion-related staff bonuses.

I think you are correct in that it isn't enough to just throw money at the problem unless you are a Jeff Bezos and can rig the system through other activities such as kit sales and more importantly, media rights. Just having the money and throwing at it for a few years isn't enough, there needs to be an extended plan to give that team time to get together. That is the advantage that we and other mid-tier teams have, the players aren't as individually talented but can play better as a collective team to pull out the draws and wins.

Surely there is only one Leicester City, one Crystal Palace and one West Bromwich Albion ? One of my pet hates that type of analogy. Just saying…
Thats a shame, still, I doubt I'll have trouble sleeping tonight because you have a 'pet hate' That term itself sounds so bloody pompous

I love the fact that I bought the tracksuit top the players walked out in last season for £30 from jd sports when it’s still £95 at Palace shop!!

We can't really fault the club for not bringing people in. But you do have to question if we should have a better back three. We don't seem to be linked with any now. Are we going to leave it there? It seems to have gone from our strongest to our weakest position in a short length of time.
I think that’s a definite, if we go into the season with Richards, Canvot and Riad we’re going to need to score a heck of a lot of goals to account for the amount we’re going to be shipping. Shame because I like Richards and Canvot and Riad improved, but we’ve lost two of the best defenders in the division now and those three are going to struggle
Sorry forgot this was the positive thread 🤣

I love how many pundits have palace going down just because Glasner moan a lot left, If we do get into trouble SP will sort it out as he usually does, so I've got no worries.

We've got some good players so up the Palace 👍

Been thinking this myself. Surely we sign a CB that our other CBs play around.
I can’t see us seeing out the window without this happening. My guess would be Disasi to take the last loan spot if we can get away with it. If Chelsea play hardball we might have to stump up £20m. My West Ham mate said he was brilliant for them last season.

Yes, had same rave reviews from my West Ham mate too - mind you he did come in for Max Kilman.

I am surprised by the centre back theme. Richards and Riad both played for decent teams at the World Cup, whilst Canvot looks to me as if he could be our next player to be in demand by the big boys. Add to that the classy Tomiyasu and the dependable Lerma, as well as the option of putting Mingueza in the centre back positions, and it does not feel to me as if it as an area where we are short of quality.

Perhaps the issue is lack of leaders.

I don't think it's so much that posters are disparaging of their individual strengths.

It's perhaps more a question of doubts as to how they will function as a unit.
I don't think they've played much (if at all) together as a back 3.
Lacroix was virtually ever present and together with Guehi and Richards formed a tight unit which worked together day in day out for a couple of seasons.
Each knew their roles inside out.

In time Canvot, Richards and Riad may build up a similar understanding but there have to be question marks, certainly in the early months of the season.
I doubt Riad and Canvot have 30 Premier League starts between them and experience is important, particularly when the 2 positions form two thirds of our defence.

We tried hard to buy Matsima at the beginning of the window so obviously the club want to buy a centre back.
In fact the strong rumour was that we also wanted 2 centre backs, but the signing of Tomiyasu may have changed that objective if he is seen an option at centre back.

I don't see Tomi as a wingback in Sage's system - not his forte IMO. RB or LB yes, but not a wingback. In any case he has said he prefers to play CB as he does for Japan.

Tomiyasu, is possibly good enough to be the centre pin of the defence, but with his injury record , probably to be viewed as a back up. None of our main three is experienced in the centre of three. Richards, better on the right, Riad, on the left, Canvot, does all that but still very raw, especially in the air. It needs someone with pace, but most of all Experience. There is still time, here’s hoping.

Yes, nail on head. Especially if we insist on not playing Hughes, we severely lack leadership on the field. Henderson can't really lead from back in the goal.

The back three and leader issues are both correct. Their link is or was Lacroix. That will hurt us more than Guehi. I'd take a John Stones type for a couple of years because although I like Richards he will not fill the void. We may just have to stump up unreasonable money to Chelsea for the loan, maybe with an option.
Add the late returns of the WC players, the poor pre season, and my personal and possibly paranoid concerns about the new manager, I'm not so optimistic. On a positive note some of the signings look interesting. Strap yourselves in...........again.

The players we have are more than good enough for a mid table finish, we had 18 players on the bench against the German team, the question is, is the Manager good enough, let’s hope so.

To be fair to sage, although he doesn’t fill me full of confidence it’s been a mess of a pre season because we had so many players at the World Cup, so I think we’re guaranteed a poor start, but hopefully a decent CB or two coming in and our best players getting back on it, the poor start won’t drag on too long
