Based on last season, I'm not having Guessand at all. Some nice moments but, overall, terribly erratic and inconsistent. Disappeared from games far more often than he turned up. An average player, all told.
If Sage can get a tune out of him then all well and good, but I'm intrigued by this discrepancy between how palace and villa describe the deal.
If we are obliged to buy him after he plays X games or is involved in X goals, then he's under a lot of pressure. Let's say, for example, we have to buy him if he plays 25 games. He gets to 15 by Xmas and is doing okay, rather than brilliantly, but is starting to find form. That's pretty normal for many players.
The club then have a big decision. Do you keep playing him in the hope he'll kick on, and become a player we are happy to buy?
What if you keep picking him but he remains just 'okay'? Do you put him in deep freeze after 24 games? Or, do you freeze him after 17 so that you can use him in the run-in if we get injuries?
