Johnson, McNeil

i think OG must take some of the blame here. He moaned so much about the summer transfer window and insisted that January signings were needed early in the window.

Johnson was clearly a panic buy to try and keep OG happy.

Surely one of the worst, and clearly most expensive, signings in the club's history
how on earth is that OG's fault? He rightly lamented our lack of signings/squad depth and I doubt he left that until the last minute. The people responsible for signings then go and sign a dud. Responsibility lays with the recruitment team who identify targets and get them in the door.

You have said this before, but they do happen. I will use the same examples I quoted you in the Hayden Hackney thread;

Clinton Morrison and Andy Johnson, Alexis Sanchez and Henryk Mikhitariyan, Danilo da Silva and Joao Cancelo, Arthur Melo and Miralem Pjanic.

When the original story broke a week ago it was being touted as McNeil + cash, but in the last two or three days it has all been about a straight swap deal with no cash involved.

The latest story is likely to be accurate, it is coming from better sources and more frequent, and supposedly both players are having medicals on the same day (today) which further leans into the swap deal theory.

No they don't

Learn contract law there is no such thing as a swap deal in modern era.

You can be creative and agree to terms not legal wise which could be classed as a swap but on the paper there is no swap.

Interesting question.
Our top 10 most expensive signings have been:
1. Strand Larsen
2.Brennan Johnson
3. Christian Benteke
4.Yeremy Pino
5. Eddie Nketiah
6. Mamadou Sakho
7. Marc Guehi
8. Jaydee Canvot
9. Chiek Doucoure
10. Adam Wharton

Safe to say a somewhat mixed bag.
More like an old bag

I'm fuckin gutted with this s*** deal.
Johnson is a better player than O'Neil in my opinion and this fuckin crappy transfer will come back and bite us firmly on the arse.
O'Neil will get my full support when he puts on our shirt that's for sure but I'm pissed off to the back teeth with this cunting shitshow masterminded no doubt by that Wolves pleb Hobbs.

I take it you are not a big fan of Hobbs 🤣

The swear-o-meter software on here appears very kind to you Syd.

Have always quite liked McNeil. It very much feels a 'let's cut our losses' move to trade him in for Johnson.

I was hopeful Johnson would get a fresh chance to impress Sage, but for whatever reason, it seems he's been deemed surplus to requirements by the club. His confidence could be shot, or just not settled into south London.

Based on what we saw last season, McNeil couldn't really be any worse. We're probably down around £10-£15m on this, but I guess that's better than holding onto a player who brings nothing to the team. It looks to be a mess up from the recruitment team, hopefully the learn from it.

Welcome Dwight, lets hope he provides some genuine competition to Sarr & Pino.

At least having a genuinely left footed player in front of him will allow Mitchell to concentrate on what he's good at and if Everton fans' view of McNeil's defensive capabilities is correct he might have to concentrate quite hard.

So are you suggesting that OG had nothing to do with that transfer, or other transfers? Was he purely a coach, because it seems that he has requested specific players at Forest.

I agree that it’s refreshing to get a genuine left footer in who’s specialty is crossing and dead ball situations.

He will probably share responsibility with Pino for the left berth and would offer a decent contrast to the way Pino plays.

If we are chasing a goal I can see us loading the middle and getting him to whip crosses in

Why are we after O"Neil who has mental health issues, as this was broadcast by his wife/girlfriend back in January. Supposedly we were the instigators of his issues, now he is signing for us!
