welcome to Brennan Johnson

Although Pino has the positive mindset to try the things you suggest, in the end he ended up losing the ball a bit too much, so it becomes frustrating when a move breaks down it is often due to poor decision making - in the end the result is the same: a good opportunity is wasted. We saw a lot of this last season and it's an area which Sage can hopefully improve.

I get what you mean however if it's a choice between Pino or Johnson, then for me it's Pino every day of the week. Yes a lot of what he tries doesn't quite come off but it's also never that far away from working. Plus in his first season with us a lot did also work out and he progressed as the season went on. Unfortunately every time Johnson has played he just looks completely lost and can barely touch the ball or complete a pass let alone provide any threat in the opponents final 3rd.

If Everton were willing to say McNeil plus 10m I think I'd snap theit hands off tbh. And not because I think McNeill is great, but mainly because if we don't get rid of Johnson before it's too late I think his value will plummet even further. McNeil although not amazing could be a useful squad member and could also provide some crosses for JSL (as it looks like that's the only real threat he carries, as for a big lad he's not a great target man and doesn't have much pace to get in behind).

It does feel a little bit like this summer window is more just an exercise in damage limitation from the madness in January.

Yes, definitely. I'm hoping for Pino to have a good season, he's got the skillset so it's a matter of decision making and it's where I'd expect Sage to make an impression. And for the reasons you mention I don't hold out much hope for Johnson, his place is up for grabs.

Not in the squad yesterday? If so it may well be he’s not in Sage’s plans and we are actively trying to get rid. Overall we’ve had a good record with transfers over the last few years compared to some but they can’t all work out. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take a hit…..

Johnson hasn't just been poor; he's been embarrassing.

I'd cut our losses and take any deal that gets us half what we paid. Dwight McNeil? I'm not so sure about that.

I actually think that last season the other players stopped passing to him. How else can a player be so invisible? Some games I had to remind my mate he was actually on the pitch. £35m and a hundred grand a week. What a disgrace….

Johnson, would have to improve 100% and only be average, it doesnt look likely to happen so no deal will get our money back.Even at a loss some sort of swop now would be our best bet. If he is on £100,000 pw however long his contract runs a saving could be made there, as he is not likely to earn that sort of money performance wise.

He was the same for wales v bosnia and also missed the penalty that knocked them out.

When they are looking for one of their prem league "stars" to step up for them he was anonymous and looked disinterested, just like he does for us!

I think it was the Chelsea home game.
He took a corner in the second half , I asked my mate when Johnson had come on, he told me he had started. Anonymous.

If you are going to be one of the best played players on a small club, you need to perform because all eyes are on you.

If he'd been brought in a cheap contract it would be one thing to give him time to get up to speed, if you are holding the team ransom while struggling then you either need to fix what is broken quickly or pack your bags for your next stop in the Serbian SuperLiga.

Agreed. We are not the only ones who waste money on transfers which don‘t work out. The big guns often waste much more. Problem for us that just one or two “Johnsons” in a row could send us down a tier, while for the wealthier clubs it’s just an annoyance.

Same McNeil that we didn't sign in jan and his missus kicked off??
Yes same one. Heard we’re going to keep it ticking over until the final minutes of the transfer window only to let an admin error let it fall through. Expect the same again in January.

The missus will love that.
I know what we all said , but he spent I think a month nursing his wife due to a serious illness , a number of Everton supporters have said this ,

For me there's something going on with Johnson , you don't go from teams wanting you to cant score , his defending was good but no attacking ,

But saying that if he is that fragile that his form drops so badly , if it is he is in the wrong trade , but lets hope its just a reset period🙏

How do we not know McNeil is a similar risk - why is he not getting first team football ?
Yes if a player looks good for one team but bad for another , its not perfect science , think a good example is gary Birtles , scored for fun forest , went to utd and couldn't score , forest brought him back and started scoring ,
