Johnson, McNeil

If we can swap them and get some cash in the deal. We get a player on 50 odd grand a week and get rid of one on 100 grand a week. That will have to do.
Also Hobbs needs head butting for sorting the Johnson deal.

I don’t understand the dislike for McNeil.

If he joined he immediately becomes our best left footed attacking threat, best crosser of the ball and best deliverer of set pieces.
These are not areas where we are exactly blessed with squad options.
I’m sure our strikers would welcome a player who can deliver early and accurate crosses into the box.

Just my opinion and not an attempt to persuade posters to change their views.

For what it’s worth I don’t think it will happen as that ship sailed in the last window.
I think Everton’s interest in Johnson has led some journalists to put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.
We seem to retain an interest in Guessand ( loan) and appear to be looking at younger wide options from overseas.
 
I'd say McNeill is one of those players that Palace might sign on a free when he's out of contract, and we'd all shrug and say 'Fine, he might come in handy here and there'. He isn't a player we should be spending tens of millions on.

However, if Everton are serious about giving us ten million quid or so and taking Brennan Johnson away, and off of our wage bill, then O'Neill just becomes a bit of a bonus.

Christ, what a situation.

Your eyes and mind need to be open when your read the forums, on second thoughts don't bother, insults are much more your thing, Dwindle.
 
Most crosses in the Premier league, seems to have done quite well on the left wing 🤔

Let’s face it, a blind 70 year old man with some heavy shopping would offer more than Johnson, so I’d give McNeil a go
 
There is no way Everton will take on Johnson at £120k a week. It would make him their joint second highest earner after Pickford and I very much doubt that Johnson would take a wage cut to make it happen.
McNeil is a £15/20m player on £25k a week.The only similarities are that neither club wants them on their books anymore.
If Everton gave us £15m cash as well then it would cut our losses and save us £85k a week in wages that could be well spent.

The only way I see something happening is if both clubs agree to a loan with option to buy. That way both players get a chance to start afresh and both clubs get the opportunity to see if the loanee is worth buying. I suspect that if that were to occur, we would have to subsidise Johnson's wages.

I would be reasonably happy with that arrangement on the basis that I don't see anyone buying Johnson from us otherwise.
 
What is it about a possible swap deal that makes it complicated?

Surely if a value is agreed for each player then they buy Johnson for his agreed value, less the agreed value of McNeill? Player contracts thereafter are between the players and thier new clubs?

Perhaps, the complication arises around one club wanting the deal to be a loan or even both clubs do but with different conditions re the obligation to buy. In any event, I don't see Everton being willing to buy Johnson other than on a try before you buy basis.
