Tomiyasu

Can’t see any mention of the length of the contract which is unusual. Maybe a year with an option of a second? Can’t see us giving him 3 years after his injury problems.
Could it be a "pay as you are available for the squad" basis but in any event I doubt it will be more than a year with an option for 1 or more at the club's discretion. Let's face it, if he stays fit, we've got a bargain.

Welcome to South London, Tomi! The Samurai Warrior of the South! 🔥🦅🎌🏆🔴🔵⚫️

Has any player in the recent history of the EPL agreed to a deal like that? Can’t see it myself.

Our last one would be Edgar Davids in the Championship.

I don't think PAYP is very common whatsoever, but neither is signing a player who has had as much time out as Tomi has.

I'm not suggesting I necessarily think he will be on PAYP though, it's more likely a standard 1-year or 2-year.

And by his own admission he prefers being a CB and at 6ft 2 he can do a job in the back 3 if called upon. He may well play in that position tonight.
If he's anything like he was when playing regularly at arsenal then he'll not just be cover, he'll be in the first XI. On that form, he's easily as good and probably better than anyone else we've got in the centre back positions.

If course, time will tell if he's diminished.

He did make a very good show for himself for us in his admittedly little spell in Como the other day IMO.

I expect him to be a starter before too long. It's a question as to how the club decide to manage his return to what is the most demanding league in Europe. Be good to see him play some part tonight.
