They changed what can be included in homicide figures, for example time limits on when a death could be linked to an earlier injury, making comparing impossible. But not only that, shifting police boundaries (Metropolitan Police District vs. modern Greater London), paper registers vs. digital records, calendar vs. financial years, and evolving classifications of murder vs. broader homicide.
Because obviously records have been kept for over a century.....How very convenient for the Police and politicians.
Because the system for whatever reason, whether you think it innocent or not has made comparisons far more difficult we have to pan out and look at say homicides in the country per capita.....Not just for London because actual true comparisons are now impossible due to the reasons above.

The real reasons for the drop from the 90s isn't because of politicians but it's far more to do with fewer young people in high-risk nighttime environments (pubs, clubs, street drinking). Declines in alcohol-related violence, more time spent at home (accelerated by smartphones, online entertainment, and later remote working/COVID effects), and shifting attitudes to spontaneous violence or traditional masculinity have reduced opportunities for lethal fights.
But obviously you believe whatever these people tell you.
It's a more dangerous city, in far more areas of it than what it was in the past.
