Trepidation for the 26/27 Prem season ?

Bit doom and gloom on here, isn't it?.....

15 years in the Premier League and three trophies in the last 18 months. Surely it's time to give Parish a bit of credit that he possibly knows what he's doing.

Personally I think Parish has done an absolutely fantastic job, and trust him entirely. My concern is that he is always fighting against the tide, that the margins between a good enough team and a relegated one can be fine (at least at the outset), that sooner or later the reaper will call for us however well-run we are, and that this might be the year.

A combination of great scouting and good luck gave us a host of excellent young players who we could sell on at a big profit, which is what the club wanted so that we could finally have a tiny bit of muscle in the market. The players we bought with that windfall have failed terribly so far, and now it seems the money is mostly all gone.

We would be fine getting by on freebies, cheap signings, and perhaps an academy graduate added to the squad if the senior players were reliable and productive. We have done exactly that in the past, notably under Hodgson. So far though, Pino, Nketiah, Larsen, and Johnson have been a collective flop, and in some cases individual disasters. Mateta will surely go. That doesn't leave very many senior players we can rely on, based on performances to date.

I can't help but feel that in years to come, when we are telling tales of how the great, glorious period in Palace history finally came to an end, many of us will cite not so much the big sales as the key reason, but the failure of the replacements.

He's got his work cut out for him, Sage. I would be neither surprised or upset if he has us playing some type of highly-conservative, risk averse, grab something on the break anti-football by Xmas.

I think this is a good post, although I would say for a club like Palace there is always going to be a slight feeling of doom if no high profile signings make it through the door before the end of the summer window.

I regards to the recent expensive signings we have made I don't share the doom and gloom, mostly.

Nketiah, for me at least is a good forward, injuries have hampered his career, which is a shame but I think we have a good player there and I would say the same for Pino. In regards to Stran Larsen and Brennan Johnson the jury is very much out but I have always thought that it takes a good season before you see just how good or how bad a player really is.

Johnson was great at Bournemouth and got his big move to spurs, ending up being their top goal scorer. IMHO, his confidence is shot and if he can get that back, he can have a big impact. A new manager and a new season is his chance. I would give him this season to see if he can do it because if he does, we could have a gem. If he can't do it this season then its time to recoup the funds but I don't see the point in constantly getting on his back. I know most will disagree with my view of Johnson but hey, it's just what I think. Time will tell.

So far we have lost Lacroix and while he is very good, I think we can still do well without him as long as we get some sort of cover in.

In regards to the team in general, we simply MUST keep Sarr, Hendo, Richards, and Munoz this season. Keeping Wharton would be excellent too and I think we should dodge that bullet for at least this season.

For us its more about holding on the players first and only then about who we sign. We obviously need to improve the squad, just like half the premier league teams but we aren't relegation fodder and I think there is no reason why we can't improve on our league position of last season.

There are without doubt a few more unknowns for us this season with all the changes but despite that I am a least still hopeful, if not certain that we can have a good campaign.

Seems to me that people are clamouring for big money signings but how many of them have come good in the past?
I’m quite happy with the 2 free transfers if they work out like Kamada plus some young prospects to bring on and a proven centre half if we’re to play 3 at the back. Maybe a Sarge recommendation or two as well. This on the basis there are no more major outgoings.
Barring an injury crisis we could have a decent season imo.

Great post and Steve Parish is just as much a fan as anyone else, having started supporting the club a year before me around 1976-7. Only he has a massive burden on his shoulders which his done remarkably well on all fronts from 2010 until now. We are now an established premier league club after all. We could never say that of Palace for the previous 100 plus years the club has existed.
We as fans should not forget that he and the likes of Dougie Freedman, Gary Issott etc are the reason we even have great players to sell, as they scouted, signed and developed them. if other clubs want our players its a sign of our success.
It certainly isnt SP fault that some of our great players want to leave to join elite clubs around Europe. Even the likes of Newcastle and Aston Villa cant keep hold of their top players.
I'm going to remain positive about the new season and get behind Sage and the boys, it will be fine.

Exactly - we dont need to throw the money around to try and impress other clubs fans either. There are financiial sustainabilty rules. Should we flout them and then get a points deduction? No thanks
The concept of a free transfer is different now, a player can be free because he let his contract run down not because he's crap.
We spent 80 friggin million in Jan. Hopefully there is more to come from Pino this season, Doucoure is back, maybe one of Franca, Johnson and Nketiah will come good too. Lets hope on that front
