Reform

In my view we should be investing massively into automation rather than importing male foreigners from culturally diverse places and giving two fingers to our own young people.

We should only have a 'guest worker' system and not be giving foreigners equal rights to a country which they have no heritage or love for.....A lot of them send money back home and are economically second class compared to those with roots here.

But in my view, it's automation or bust as the solution to the growing older situation....not bringing in replacement work forces which only causes conflict.

The business and housing lobbies and foreign banks don't give a damn about the lives of those effected.....they only care about themselves.

I have no idea why you think like that, although you are in good company here. This section of the site is full of such warped thinking.

No one in their right mind would welcome any kind of institution of that sort opening up on their doorstep, so to suggest I would be a “big fan” is malicious nonsense. I wouldn’t be.

That though is entirely different to understanding and respecting the need for our country to have to deal with the realities of a situation none of us want. We have obligations under international treaties. People make asylum claims that take time to process. Our means of doing so is overwhelmed so delays occur. We don't yet have enough purpose built facilities to house those needing to be housed.

Those who suggest simplistic solutions are misleading people irresponsibly. There aren’t any such solutions. The only way to overcome this is the long hard slog we are involved in, which is, very slowly, working. In the meantime some will get discomforted. It might be me, although practically I see no actual chance of that happening as nothing remotely suitable exists locally.

How we manage such facilities is an entirely different matter. Unless families are involved I see no reason why those being housed are permitted to roam in communities. I am not any kind of expert on the logistics and manpower required but secure facilities, well away from urban centres, with basic work expected in return for accommodation, seem sensible to me. They aren’t here on holiday. Keeping them safe and fed is all we should be doing. Alongside ensuring our lives are disrupted as little as possible. I see some signs of attempts to do this.
If secure facilities are available there are other candidates who could be accommodated.

Yup it makes sense. Business (the market) will always do what it thinks best for them.

So any government can carrying on importing workers meanwhile business will be getting rid of jobs through automation.

A smart government will realise that there maybe a temporary gap e.g. lack of doctors or care workers but that the overall trend of jobs is down. We should be pushing our youth to take the jobs that "nobody else wants" rather than the current Ponzi scheme.

Another pithy joke that needed explaining, HKPatriot.
Nothing relevant to contribute as usual.

The bridge is calling...

Any comment on the Wisbech abuse I was responding to?
The man deserves all he gets. Both of you are part of the problem.

Not if they have a job, that’s the priority
It’s still a matter of choice.

The first time I moved to live in the West Country was back in the 60s, when I first left home. I moved to Devon from London, gave up my job in the City and arrived here without one. Quickly found a new one in Plymouth, where my city experience counted a lot.

I left because I was tired of the commute and chaos. I will never again live in a city.

It’s all about what’s most important. Such decisions are much more difficult if you have family commitments but are not impossible.

The fact that this non working community, who number amongst the highest on benefits, exist within that Islamic community centre. Objectively, you should take your frequently made message on work inactivity to them.
What on earth are you talking about? You have even less idea than I do what those who use the Islamic Community Centre do in their daily lives. I can only surmise that many are doing ok, given the quality of the cars parked there. Lots of family activities going on too. I know some of the clinicians at our hospital are attendees. Not a lot of evidence of people on benefits.
But you never would.

You raised it, so you obviously knew the place existed.
I didn’t. I responded.

" City experience ", that's really funny. Sweeping the streets of EC3 was a much admired skill in the West Country back in the day.

Assuming it was 1965 you would have been 21, let me guess, youngest ever Chairman of Lloyd's?

Zero standards.
why bother tackling the subject of the OP ? especially when you can just tackle the HOL Eagle.....a much easier target and now its your modus operandus.

The thread is about Reform. Your last 5 postings on this thread have been nothing but insults & trolling. Will i use the 'Report' button on you ? not today cos you do actually support Palace and i am in a good mood.

That's the system our rulers have designed the classic Ponzi scheme, which they kick down the road for the next guy....Which being Burnham will continue to kick the can and worsen the outcome.

I'm not even blaming him that much in this particular regard as he's just the latest clown.

The paths gone down for decades were mistakes......I can see benefits for anxiety and mental health and such like going...Pip going for example. But in reality that will reduce the welfare expenditure by about 10 to twenty percent....twenty being optimistic in my view.....it doesn't solve the problem that you don't have enough well paid jobs for the younger workforce to afford the cost of living....which isn't going to get better no matter what Labour do.

The wealth class want all the pain to be given to the working classes while they continue unaffected.....the worse aspect being that because of globalism, there is no way of changing that. You punish them and they just remove their investment.....there's no 'we are all in it together' and there never was.

For me, it's automation or bust but that doesn't appear to be what's happening.....China and to a lesser extent the US are doing that....We don't seem to be.

I'd want someone like Cummings in charge but with fifty percent of the voting base being safety first women and a sizable left wing soy male base and foreigners all voting left.

Essentially the country is fecked.

It's ride the tiger until it collapses.....though it'll be Japan-style stagnation or gradual relative decline before that happens.

How do you know if they are likely to suffer such problems? Most people look at crime statistics before moving, along with quality of life , schooling ( if required) and healthcare facilities
I’ll take your word that is what “most” people do, although I don’t see how you can make such a claim.

I don’t. I make judgements based on instinct and experience. I have looked at schools in the past. Pubs too! Being able to walk to a decent pub used to be quite important. These places were though always in rural locations where the possibility of a significant crime problem wasn’t a consideration.
