Yes, i know, he has to make a living, buy as few players that are needed to supplement what you have, but spend as much as you can on the right player, put Grealish, or similar on the left, and you have a very good team and squad

These know it all youngsters with their YouTube, tik tok, Instagram, X pages and channels and their podcasts, with all their shirts and memorabilia hanging up in the back ground to show what great supporters they are……..they only come out and see the light of day when palace are playing 🤣🤣🤣
So that January business continues to haunt us, it not only looked bad at the time but it's now restricting us improving the squad.
90m down the drain and we'll have to watch these 'assets' depreciate in value week in week out this season. Well maybe not directly as they'll likely be on the bench.

Whilst individual contribution can be questioned for every player - we won the Conference League last year and the FA Cup the season before. All the mentioned players have winners medals from at least one of these tournaments.
Esse clearly fell out with Glasner and was shipped out. Would suggest we judge Esse when he leaves Palace, not now.
Nketiah has been plagued by injuries unfortunately but has looked sharp at times and scored some important goals for us.
The other 2 - are we really a club that gives players 6 months to prove their worth? When have we ever bought "instant impact" players? The lack of patience from some fans really does baffle me sometimes.

I used the term "Thus far" as I am willing to accept that the passage of time might see a revival in the fortunes of some of the players.
Perhaps Monsieur Sage will get a tune out of the players who thus far have failed to impress.
When a club of our stature has spent in excess of £125 Mill on players who have not made a significant contribution it is understandable that supporters patience is tested.
I get where you're coming from but when you pay huge fees fans have every right to expect to see some instant impact. For 90m we've seen a brief glimpse of what JSL can do well and a good glimpse at what he can't. Johnson has mostly looked like a competition winner who's just been given the chance to play Premier League football.
Neither have the excuse of 'settling in to a new league' and the club did not fork out such sums without expecting an instant impact. JSL was in fact bought to come straight in as Mateta was due to leave... But by the end of the season he had lost his place to a rusty and recovering Mateta.
I think the club are regretting both purchases tbh, certainly the prices paid. I'd imagine this summer both would have been available for about 50% cheaper... Which is much closer to their true value.

I get what you're saying about transfer fees but I don't think you can ask any player to make an instant impact when they are uprooting to a completely new area and life, as well as joining a new environment and a new team. Team's need to be able to gel to get performances and Johnson and JSL have both come from very different teams to how we played last season. Just because the higher ups negotiated a high fee for both of them, doesn't make player impact automatic.
Johnson is also being played either out of position or battling with our player of the season, Sarr. He was Spurs top goalscorer the season before with a full run of games and tore it up at Forest prior to moving to Spurs. He hasn't become a bad player overnight so I would suggest he is either settling in OR low on confidence. Neither of which will be fixed by transfer fees.
JSL didn't lose his place to a rusty and recovering Mateta - Mateta literally scored within minutes of returning and then kept scoring from there on out. Mateta earned his place back in the team, JSL didn't lose it from being rubbish.

The club spent a lot of money but that's the world we operate in now, everyone asks the club to fork out more cash and then criticizes them when they do... Even after we have back to back trophy winning seasons....?
I'd say JSL did lose his place to Mateta. He had a run at the position without competition and apart from JSL's first game he didn't look that effective and the difference that Mateta made when he returned was clear despite him not being amazing or fully fit. Therefore JSL lost his place to him.
I don't think anyone was expecting JSL or Johnson to set the world alight but in 6 months they've shown very little and when they've played the team look noticeably weaker. That's not exactly what you fork 90m out for.
Do I want them to do well and justify their price tags? Absolutely.
Do I feel confident of this after witnessing their performances so far? Absolutely not.

I like both of those options, you are right about the Hughes/Lerma partnership, and we usually do well buying from the Championship. James technically wouldn't be bought from it, but was playing in it.
Rennes paid £4 mil GBP for James in 2024. Leicester had an option on him for this window at €5 mil EUR, working out at roughly £4.2 mil GBP.
I suspect they would have exercised it, if they hadn't been relegated again. If we put in a bid, it would have to be higher than Leicester's option, but I recon it could be done for less than £5 mil GBP.

Patience tested not at team but at individual level.
Supporters witness significant amounts on certain players and see precious little to justify the outlay.
As for 'Yours Truly' I reiterate my use of 'Thus far' and have not discounted the fact that some players might improve their performances under Monsieur Sage.
