Team v Lens

I am left thinking what was the point of this tournament. We could have saved a few bob by staying at home and playing a couple more local friendlies. As it is, it's largely just been a run out for mainly fringe players, who, on the whole, haven't done themselves any favours, and without our first teamers , has in no way helped prepare us for the forthcoming season.

Er... everybody got their duty frees in?

Johnson to get first goal today?
What really bothers me about Johnson is his body language. Time and time again I have seen him chase a pass from the midfield only for a defender to intercept it first. I never get the impression that he really wants it. At least with JPM you know that he will clatter into the defender if he has to.

If your not prepared to put your foot in you are not going to win the 50/50 balls.

And the lest said about his shooting the better.

Before the game a supporter whom I know mentioned that he was not convinced by Sage and has a hunch that his stay will be short-lived.
He also stated as such re De Boer !
When the club is flirting with relegation by Xmas all attention will be on Monsieur Sage and not the chief architect Parish - so it has always been.

These friendlies are meaningless when only a couple of first team players are involved and it surely would be unfair to assess Sage based on these games.
We need the big hitters to return fit and on form.
There may be lingering concerns over the fitness of Wharton, Riad and Pino together with the loss of Lacroix so , as ever, the club the will have the responsibility to ensure Sage is given the best possible chance to succeeed with proper resources.
This would be my concern at present.

I am certainly not forming an adverse opinion of Sage based on the last 2 friendlies where several fringe players were on display.
Perhaps the defeats against Bromley and Lens might lead some to question the quality of these players.
At present I am not sounding any 'Alarm bells' due to defeats in friendlies with so many first team players not being on show.
