Glasner to Forest

We could sing the “have you ever…….?” song to them as I doubt they’ll be many still around who did actually see them lift the FA cup in 1947!!
As it happens, my grandad was, and if he hadn’t died in the early 70’s I would’ve been a Charlton fan because it was the first games I went too with him………dodged a bullet there 😅

How do you define a big club? A Supreme Court judge once said "I can't define pornography but I know it when I see it".

Attendance? Yes but then that can be skewed. Palace have size constraints West Ham don't. Sunderland are a one town club where London has at least 8. So Sunderland are the only game in town.

History? Nothing wrong in being proud of you history but there are many northern towns whose clubs were big before the war but are now perennial lower league participants.

Success? I suspect this is the best measure. A mate once suggested that a big club should win one trophy at least every 10 years. I think this is the best measure.

We are currently in a purple patch but we are not bigger than West Ham we are just better off then them this season. We need another 10 years of better performances than them before we can say we are the 4th club in London.

Go back the the Curbishley era Charlton were bigger than Palace or certainly on a par. I think even the most one eyed Charlton fan would agree we have now pulled ahead of them.
The original question was about being a bigger draw to attract a manager rather than this more open-ended concept of a so-called "big" club in this wide of a context.

Plenty of clubs have a history of being "big" but can't currently offer the circumstances to match other clubs who haven't historically but now are.

Still sickened that he went to Forest - all that talk about ‘Ich bin ein South Londoner’ when he left. VERY hollow. Europe beckoned, I thought. NF chairman (Marinakebabis?) glad to spite Palace, as I guess is Glasner, who had a poor relationship with Parrish. But he DID achieve with us, big time - not to be forgotten…

Absolutely, and a supporter the other day said to me that we owe him a debt of gratitude for providing us with such cherished memories.
In the final analysis he honoured his contract and was then free to negotiate with any club and make a decision in his best interests.

It's a period of our history we will never forget especially when we feel the need to dig out replays of the 2025 FA Cup Final the 2026 Community Shield and the 2026 Europa Conference League and wistfully say "Those were the days".

As Winston Churchill said, This was their finest hour!!

Looking at Parish's comments after we won the conference league about being better prepared for this window & looking at the current transfers you can see why OG had enough and wanted out.

Has gone to forest and is being backed for the players he wants. Only thing is will he survive an execution if he goes on a winless run as he did with us twice???

Really? So far, they've sold Anderson and brought in a freebie from Wolfsburg who used to play for him. Hmm, where have we heard that before? In other words, so far Forest haven't done any more for Glasner than Parish did at this stage of the Summer window. In fact, it has been argued that Munoz was brought in for Glasner even before Glasner came to us.

I wonder how much there is in the PSR. They spent a lot last summer.

And Wharton for that matter.

Schlarger signed
Bid submitted for Diomande
Active talks with Begvall
3 bids for Givario Read

More than what we're doing for Sage at the moment

Is it though? We’ve signed a player and are reported to be in talks with a few clubs about players. Reported being the key word there. Ultimately we don’t know what conversations are taking place at our club or others.

What we do know is Glasner left us to go to a club in a very similar situation and at a similar level.
