If that is the case, then surely it would be a release clause in contract. Highly likely most players have one these days and £52m two years ago probably seemed about right. In today’s market, it feels ludicrously undervalued for Max. Gonna bloody miss him!

Definitely. It's disappointing because as well as his play he felt like a proper Palace man.

I understand the point, but what in truth is a Palace man?

The most vociferous players in terms of celebrating with the fans, fist pumping and waving of arms are Mateta and Lacroix- and yet both want out.

Perhaps a better example of a Palace man is Mitchell, a true consistent competitor who goes about his work in an understated way never (ostensibly) complaining or seeking to hog the limelight.
In his own way he’s equally as effective as Lacroix or Mateta.

With regard the supposed £52 million fee for Lacroix, coincidentally this seems to be the same fee as Spurs paid for Van Hecke from Brighton.
Let’s hope it’s not a case of using that as a benchmark for a centre back.
Van Hecke is a decent player, but he’s not at the same level as Lacroix who also has 3 years remaining on his contract as opposed to Van Hecke’s one year.

I can only assume there must be some sort of release clause in the Lacroix contract which didn’t even require it to be a Champions League club coming in for him.

Absolutely. Tyrick Mitchell is a hero but I guess I'm just easily convinced - no idea why because Olise was hardly one to whip the crowd up.

I think the bigger issue for me, is that we are so sketchy with our recruitment. We can all agree that we have had some successes, which is why the big clubs come and buy them.
But I feel we are getting it wrong more than we are getting it right. Parish and co needs to look at the recruitment team and scouts and wonder what they are doing.

It’s not ideal to keep selling your best players, but we will never stop players from wanting to go to bigger clubs for more money. However if you look at a club like Bournemouth, they sold their 3 best defenders in the same transfer window but managed to successfully replace them and were even better for it.

So for me the question is how do we replicate the likes of the Weed and Bournemouth and continue to find the next £100m player on a regular basis?

I think that’s the worry now, which means the team and squad is gradually getting weaker, we spent £85 million in January which is an unbelievable amount for us and although I think JSL will score a few next season, neither signing improved us, they were just bodies in the building, which for £85 million you expect a heck of a lot more

It has been known for a few months that Lacroix would not be starting the forthcoming season with us.
Clubs of our standing and stature who unveil players of elevated quality will always be prey to clubs of a higher status.
Wharton will be the next cab off the rank.

Its the way of the world, but we find the players, build them up, and replace them, it will never change, i am happy with the last 13/14 years of Premiership football.
 
what concerns me is that the transfer fee quoted is in Euros (60m euro is about £52m) but mentions a deal, so that implies it includes add ons.

At a minimum i was hoping for £55m fixed and maybe an extra £5m in add ons.

We were never going to get the £70m that was mentioned, but i thought £60m would be an ok fee, even in today's inflated fee environment

We hopefully have someone lined up to replace him, if not we go back to our usual sell.and hope option and we end up weaker.

This time last season we had a golden opportunity to push on and up.

More so this year and let's hope we don't blow it.
 
So wrong in every way in Europe and selling our best players no wonder OG would not sign a new contract lost 2 best centre backs just shows football is all about money Chelsea city should of been deducted points but still buy every one available
Some times what is the point we are so behind the times need a new chairman with proper ambition

Realistically we are not going to win the FA Cup and a European Competition in the foreseeable future.
Those teams contained Guehi, Eze, Lacroix,Wharton etc.
The 'Golden era' has passed perhaps never to be replicated and a more realistic ambition is to attain a top 10 finish in the PL.
