Indeterminate sentencing may be appropriate in the most serious cases but otherwise is a shocking way to treat anybody.
People laugh when a US judge gives someone a 999 year sentence. However this is basic Habeas Corpus, the guilty have a right to know when they will be released. So if you want someone to serve a life sentence you have to set a term that balances the not getting out ever with the rights of the individual.

And, if it's possible, even more so when prison overcrowding has caused the early release of lots of dangerous inmates.

I don't understand what you are disagreeing with me about. I am against indeterminate sentences because that is a fundamental basis of our law. People however horrible have a right to know what they are guilty of and how long their sentences are.i disagree. Ian Huntley, Harold Shipman, Jimmy Savile, etc.

Found guilty. He will be sentenced fairly soon. Do they want to 'make an scrambled-eggsample of him' ? A custodial sentence will be highly likely. Possibly even a long one.
